Vacation to Myrtle Beach

Featured Replies

I would love your input...we are going to Myrtle beach in May, we are taking our kids (ages 3 and 19 months). We have never been to the beach as a family and I was wondering what all in that area there is to do that is family friendly, or for us to do when we get a night out. We are staying at a resort that has a lot for us to do and the for the kids, but it is nice to go outside the resort. Also the kids have never traveled this long in a car, we have DVD players, snacks, toys etc, but any suggestion on keeping them happy for 11+ hours in the car  Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am heading soon to by all the fun stuff needed for the trip. I am getting so excited but I am a early preparer, so I am starting now. Oh one more thing....both of our kids get car sick....it's awful, please if you have any remedies or ideas on that..PLEASE let me know lol

Plenty of stuff to do as family. The pavalion down on the boulevard has kid friendly rides. There is outdoor shopping at Boardwalk and in North MB, plenty of putt putt and the like. You shouldn't have a problem staying entertained while there. As for I night out for the two of you I would HIGHLY recommend the Carolina Opry.

Hard Rock is opening an amusement park in the area -- to be open in Mid April. It looks like a great place to go.

You do not have to drive to find plenty for your children to do.

Hopefully things have changed, but we took our children to Myrtle Beach about 15 years ago...........The beaches were crowded and full of cigarette butts. The town was very busy, but everything was extremely expensive.

Later, we got a house at Pawleys Island, about ten miles away. Houses were way more expensive, but...............nothing to do. The kids spent the entire time on the beach and, in the long run, more relaxing and cheaper.

Probably our most expensive/fun/greatest night when we go down there is the night we go to Drunken Jacks Restaurant. It is probably the best place to eat down there. The most crowded also. You are looking at about a 2 hour wait, but they ahve a waiting room with a bar, live band, and couches where you can eat appetizers.

The Water Park near Pawleys Island to the South is GREAT. Love Crabby Mike's Restaurant, the Pavilion,Carolina Opry...and oh yeah....Midevil Times is AWESOME.Best advice to you is to ask the person at the desk of you hotel for family friendly ideas!!

Oh...and don't forget to just have a night in with pizza delivery (try the local fare) and enjoy the beach!!!

A 3 year old is young to be going to the beach I couldn't imagine taking a 19 mo. old. We started taking my daughter when she was 4 and I wish I would have waited a few years. Aligator Adventure was the best place we went for kids. The water parks and amusement parks are great but not for kids that young. The kiddy pools at the resorts may be your best bet. Dick's Last Resort is a great place to eat.

Yeah I am a bit scared of the ages lol but hey, we wanted a vacation too, I just have a feeling I wont be laying out on the beach like I want to...ALONE, I am sure I will have some funny tan line b/c I will be chasing little ones around, Oh well, thats what makes them fun:ylsuper:

MrsFF, all mine have been to the beach before they were a year old. It's no big deal, as long as they wear lots of sunscreen (reapply during the day several times) and make sure they get their naps.

THEY BEST WORD EVER INVENTED!!!! And they will NOT go without one, best advise yet. I know we will have a blast. Our son who is 3 is so excited, we let him pick out some sand toys, and I got him little goggles and things, and at his age, it really is the little things that make him so happy. Thanks.

Yes, great and fun place to go to, unless you are with your grandmother that does not understand that they are SUPPOSED to be mean, not fun then.:irked:

Also, if you can rent a beach umbrella at the beginning of the week, you will use it every day. That way they can get some shade, but you don't have to go in. We also get an umbrella and some chairs so my husband and I can relax a little while everyone plays in the sand around us.

THANK YOU, something I don't think I would have thought of:thumb:
