April 8, 200818 yr I would love your input...we are going to Myrtle beach in May, we are taking our kids (ages 3 and 19 months). We have never been to the beach as a family and I was wondering what all in that area there is to do that is family friendly, or for us to do when we get a night out. We are staying at a resort that has a lot for us to do and the for the kids, but it is nice to go outside the resort. Also the kids have never traveled this long in a car, we have DVD players, snacks, toys etc, but any suggestion on keeping them happy for 11+ hours in the car :lol: Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I am heading soon to by all the fun stuff needed for the trip. I am getting so excited but I am a early preparer, so I am starting now. Oh one more thing....both of our kids get car sick....it's awful, please if you have any remedies or ideas on that..PLEASE let me know lol I get car sick. I have noticed as long as i dont read or watch a tv while the car is moving and i can actually see the road with my own eyes im ok. If i get stuck in the back of a three seat van or a huge suv. I start getting sick.
April 9, 200818 yr My family went to Dick's Last Resort. I had heard great reviews and we waited for over an hour to be seated. The rudeness of the staff didn't bother me because I had been told and was expecting it. I was however, also expecting an edible meal. The food was horrible and we could have had a seafood buffet for the price we paid. Don't get me wrong, we all agree we are glad we went, but it was a one time only thing for my family. The last trips to MB, my family has eaten at Senior' Frogs at Broadway on the Beach. With youngsters, I'd try to go for the noon meal, but my kids are older and we all enjoy the late evening meal there. They have a band that puts on a good show and includes the audience too. Last summer, about 12 graduating seniors went to MB with us and two other couples and we all had an absolute blast. Senior Frogs was great. I took my 8yr. old daughter and 4 yr. old nephew last summer and we had a blast they danced the whole time they also got in a conga line and went all around the place acting like fools, I have some amazing video it was the highlight of our trip, but be prepaired to wait in line.
April 9, 200818 yr We just made our reservations for July. We always stay on Shore Drive. It is a dead end and mostly family atmosphere. I noticed some parents digging a shallow hole in the sand and filling it with water for their toddlers to play in. This gave the kids water to splash around in and gave the parents peace of mind away from the tides. :thumb: We usually stay on the same strip, but don't give too much of this little secret gem away. :sssh:

April 9, 200818 yr Author I have noticed a couple of people saying that myrtle beach can be dirty cig butss etc....is there anything to worry about with the kids. I am hoping that b/c we are staying at a resort, their section will be clean.

April 13, 200818 yr Also, if you can rent a beach umbrella at the beginning of the week, you will use it every day. That way they can get some shade, but you don't have to go in. We also get an umbrella and some chairs so my husband and I can relax a little while everyone plays in the sand around us. I just got back from Myrtle tonight (well really North Myrtle and I sure didn't want to leave!! :mad:) In North Myrtle you can rent an umbrella and 2 chairs for $150 for 7 days. They will have them set up for you each day with your name on them so you can find it. They give you a day break paying that way. If you want to do it day by day then it's $25 each day. I saw MANY toddlers on the beach and they LOVED it!! It was so much fun watching them too. There is plenty to do in the area . . . I'd say Broadway at the Beach would be a great place to start . . . lots of different places to eat and shops of all kinds too. They even have a small amusement park there for the younger patrons!! Hard Rock Cafe is opening an amusement park and I believe it is expected to open the middle or end of May. You can probably do a web search and find out for sure.

Call the local BBB, and check the place out, if you like it, good for you. I sent up a warning flag, that's all.

She said it's definately NOT a place to bring the fam when the bikers are in town. She said it gets really wild and the traffic is terrible.
April 13, 200818 yr I'm counting the days to go to the MB. My family and I usually go toward the last week of June -- during the dead period for high school sports. It gives my sons a chance to relax before they get hammered from the heat of the summer practices and their coaches.

Thats so funny b/c I googled and called the place we are staying and they said the last day of bike week is the 26th which is the day we will get there, that there was nothing the week we were there. And we noticed the priced were WAY high the week prior to us coming and its b/c its bike week.

April 13, 200818 yr Good luck to you with the kids and traveling. Myrtle Beach will be well worth it. A few places of interest and family oriented imo would be........ There are a couple of Water Parks, I can't remember the names of them right now but the kids would have a great time playing there. Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing (both have shopping and good restaraunts along with places to rest with the kids) As another has posted, one place to eat is a drive Murrels Inlet and a dinner at Drunken Jacks, there is always a wait but if you go early for dinner the wait is not as bad. This restaraunt sets beside and over the inlet with some very good views. If you like seafood this place is a must, is always the best meal that my wife and myself have on our trip.:thumb: A theme Restaraunt that my wife and I always enjoyed at Broadway at the Beach is "Johnny Rockets", this is a oldies (50's) style theme place with great food (hamburgers, bbq, onion rings, fries, shakes and the like) The shakes are amazing. hey have the "dancing waiters" that every so often they beak out in a dance to an "oldies" song."Fudruckers" is another "hamburger joint" that is pretty good. "T-Bonz" is a very good steakhouse, one of my favorites and it is at Broadway at the Beach and at Barefoot Landing as well The "Dixie Stampede" is a dinner/show that we like. The "Carolina Opry" and "Medevil times" are also good shows. Also, as another has already posted .....beach umbrellas are a very good idea for the kids, the sun on the beach can get very strong and absolutely load up on the sunscreen. I know that you will find many things to do with the children and enjoy your trip. One other thing is I saw a name of a restaraunt named earlier and I will give you some imput/opinion on it......Stay away from "Dicks Last Resort", with or without kids this place is a dump! My wife and I made the big mistake of eating there once and was the worst meal that I believe that I have ever "tried" to eat. This place is popular I guess for the younger high school and college crowd and definately not for young children. Their theme is insulting everyone (I am serious), I personally could live and have some fun with slinging the insults back and forth with the waiter's/waitress's but the food was pathetic. My final review of Dicks Last Resort...........the place is a sewage plant, stay away. :lol: Excellent choices!!! I have been around 30 times and these are very good choices for the young uns. :thumb:Murrels Inlet at sunset is outstanding. Oldrambler has it nailed!!!
April 15, 200818 yr My two choices for eating out would be Carolina Roadhouse(around 48th Ave North on Highway 17) and Gulfstream Cafe(at Garden City overlooking the inlet toward Murrell's Inlet), I will personally guarantee complete satisfaction.:thumb: Without exception, everyone I have guided to Carlolina Roadhouse raves about the place-trust me on this one.:ylsuper:
