We are actually staying at a resort called Compass Cove, have any of you heard of this place.....I was given good feedback on it a couple of years ago, and we booked on their word. Thanks

If you can, drive through the night. It's the best way to travel with little ones. They'll likely sleep most of the way.

 

BTW, did you guys ever get that mess taken care of?

I have stayed there. It was nice, seems as though the beach may have been a little crowded there, but I could be wrong.

Sea Mist was awesome. One of the best I've stayed at in about 20 trips to Myrtle Beach.

I think they tore down the Pavillion. I was there in 2006 and I believe that was the last year of it.

MB at nights is NOT a good place for kids or teens. It is wild. Very much a party atmosphere.

Garden City is very laid back and perfect spot for families.

 

MB during the day is great, plenty of shopping, parasailing, jet-skiing, water parks, race car tracks... etc... However it used to be cheaper to go to MB area then say Destin area, but now days it is about the same.

 

I liked the Garden City Beaches much better then the MB beaches... Cleaner.

Forgot to add another note.. We stayed once at Whispering Sands, and whoever we rented from, did not do a good job from cleanup after the roof leaked and covered the mold/mildew up. I came home with a SERIOUS sinus infection from it.

Also, if you can rent a beach umbrella at the beginning of the week, you will use it every day. That way they can get some shade, but you don't have to go in. We also get an umbrella and some chairs so my husband and I can relax a little while everyone plays in the sand around us.

 

 

We just made our reservations for July. We always stay on Shore Drive. It is a dead end and mostly family atmosphere.

 

I noticed some parents digging a shallow hole in the sand and filling it with water for their toddlers to play in. This gave the kids water to splash around in and gave the parents peace of mind away from the tides.

Good luck to you with the kids and traveling. Myrtle Beach will be well worth it. A few places of interest and family oriented imo would be........

 

There are a couple of Water Parks, I can't remember the names of them right now but the kids would have a great time playing there.

 

Broadway at the Beach and Barefoot Landing (both have shopping and good restaraunts along with places to rest with the kids)

 

As another has posted, one place to eat is a drive Murrels Inlet and a dinner at Drunken Jacks, there is always a wait but if you go early for dinner the wait is not as bad. This restaraunt sets beside and over the inlet with some very good views. If you like seafood this place is a must, is always the best meal that my wife and myself have on our trip.:thumb:

 

A theme Restaraunt that my wife and I always enjoyed at Broadway at the Beach is "Johnny Rockets", this is a oldies (50's) style theme place with great food (hamburgers, bbq, onion rings, fries, shakes and the like) The shakes are amazing. hey have the "dancing waiters" that every so often they beak out in a dance to an "oldies" song.

 

"Fudruckers" is another "hamburger joint" that is pretty good.

 

"T-Bonz" is a very good steakhouse, one of my favorites and it is at Broadway at the Beach and at Barefoot Landing as well

 

The "Dixie Stampede" is a dinner/show that we like.

 

The "Carolina Opry" and "Medevil times" are also good shows.

 

Also, as another has already posted .....beach umbrellas are a very good idea for the kids, the sun on the beach can get very strong and absolutely load up on the sunscreen.

 

I know that you will find many things to do with the children and enjoy your trip. One other thing is I saw a name of a restaraunt named earlier and I will give you some imput/opinion on it......Stay away from "Dicks Last Resort", with or without kids this place is a dump! My wife and I made the big mistake of eating there once and was the worst meal that I believe that I have ever "tried" to eat. This place is popular I guess for the younger high school and college crowd and definately not for young children. Their theme is insulting everyone (I am serious), I personally could live and have some fun with slinging the insults back and forth with the waiter's/waitress's but the food was pathetic.

My final review of Dicks Last Resort...........the place is a sewage plant, stay away. :lol:

 

My family went to Dick's Last Resort. I had heard great reviews and we waited for over an hour to be seated. The rudeness of the staff didn't bother me because I had been told and was expecting it. I was however, also expecting an edible meal. The food was horrible and we could have had a seafood buffet for the price we paid. Don't get me wrong, we all agree we are glad we went, but it was a one time only thing for my family.

 

The last trips to MB, my family has eaten at Senior' Frogs at Broadway on the Beach. With youngsters, I'd try to go for the noon meal, but my kids are older and we all enjoy the late evening meal there. They have a band that puts on a good show and includes the audience too. Last summer, about 12 graduating seniors went to MB with us and two other couples and we all had an absolute blast.

Rates are a little lower because the owner takes care of everything and no realty charge is assessed. We stay on Shore Drive. It is a 7 mile drive to Broadway at the Beach and downtown MB, but Shore drive is a dead end, the breach is nice and clean and it is away from all the traffic. Ocean Annie's has a live band every night and the bar is outside. We sit on the beach and listen to the band. Even my 18 yr olds say this is the best relaxing vacation.

 

We have also stay at Barefoot landing. Their condos are huge and the resort has a basketball court, tennis courts and every building has a pool. It isn't on the beach, but during peak months, a shuttle bus runs to the beach and back once an hour. It is good for those that don't like all the sand being tracked in the room and the car. It will be great to stay here when my vacations are a month long and not just a week.

No, we haven't. We've just had such good luck with vrbo that we've stuck with them. Do you recommend Dunes?
