I coached on the 5/6th grade team, and if you did call (I'm not saying you didn't), we had way too many games to add another one. Just to add, we didn't lose any of them, either. Not boastful, just proud! :thumb:

 

Hey coach, I talked to scott a couple of times and we tried along with Parks to get something worked out also tried with the coaches at Cumberland and we both needed some fill in games. All this stuff is water under the bridge but last year I would have really liked to have played you guys to see where we were as a team.

I have said all along that Harlan County needs to avoid the city schools next year and every year after that because the city only wants to play when it is better for them. The city wants to play one year and then decides not to play the next. The conference was set up to include the city schools. Harlan decided not to play. I understand that the city was looking out for what was best for them and I agree. However, I know for a fact that it put the county in a bind as far as games. It was set and they refused. It's my opinion that Harlan County needs to play in the conference that was set up and let the City play in the league they set up. They need to set up their own basketball league also and run with it. I just think that would be what is best for all involved.

YoungBlood, weren't you a city boy at one time or another? Just messing. I will touch this post. I think the basketball program never once brought up about being in the same league with the county kids. It helps with transportation and travel. Also with the gates. I do know however it seems as when Harlan had their great teams in the county league the county always found a way to kick them out for whatever reason. I may be wrong, but Harlan has never asked to not be included in the county basketball league.

I'll also give this a whack, yes it is true that Harlan decided to not play in the CVC middle school football league 2-3 years ago. The reason was that the 7-8 grade team at Harlan was down to under 16 players and it was determined that because Bell Co and New Harlan were dressing close to 50 each that the 7-8 team was not able to compete at that level with these teams. I think that we are all in agreement that in football when you are rebuilding it is nessessary to soften your schedule to a level that you can either play with or close to with out getting players hurt or disenchanted with the sport. It is sort of like when Cawood opted out of playing Bell co when they did not have to because they were in different classes. They could not compete so they played teams that they compared with on the field. Evarts, Cumberland, and Harlan all class A teams, in some of your minds this is ok but for Harlan to do the same thing it is somehow wrong. It boils down to this as long as Harlan is willing to take a butt whipping at the hands of any of the county schools things would be alright. BTW I really hope that the new school has tremendous success in all areas and hopefully Harlan can get their programs back to a level where they can have success in the Class A tournys. How great would that be for us to have two teams playing for regional titles in football at the same time how about that for a dream!

You keep mixing the 5-6, 7-8 and high school teams to make this all very confusing. Cawood began avoiding Bell County on the high school level, which basically proved they were no longer a power, which goes back to my original point. If Harlan is to be a Class A power, as someone asked about, you can be sure they won't be avoiding Cawood's team on the middle school level.

I avoid the issue because this is supposed to be about 2008 Harlan, not teams/players that will or won't help Harlan in 2011, 12, 13. Also, as someone that was in the room when the decision was made 2 years ago, watching the debates in various threads is like watching an abortion debate...both sides have tinted goggles and are not going to suddenly say "ok, you're right". Heck, neither side can even concede a decent point after 2 years.

 

I'll keep trying though...One playoff win...over or under or push?

If Harlan wins more than one playoff game, J.B. is the Kentucky coach of the year. I'll go with one, but that's assuming Harlan finishes second in the district. If they're third, it's unlikely they can go on the road and beat Paintsville.

 

I'll say over on Pennington's tackles and over on Hensley's TDs, as long as he's playing somewhere besides receiver.

 

What points are in question in this debate about Harlan County? Harlan did drop out of the league in order to stop playing Bell and Cawood. Has anyone denied this or said it was not a good move for Harlan?

 

As far as the pitching, it must go back to coaching. She struggled to get it over the plate with me catching. I did stress control though, no matter how slow she had to throw. I hate walks.

Allen Hensley for 10 TDs this season...over or under?

I would like to see the Dragons hand him the ball 10 or 15 times per game. I think he needs to be the TB if the Dragons are going to be effective on "O" next year.
