I'm not saying Wal-Mart is the only one that deserves some fault in this, but their track record is far worse than the woman being put through all this crap.

 

Yes, the contract is simple, you are awarded money in a lawsuit, the evil empire has the legal right to take back whatever money they gave.

 

If you let one case go, you open the door to other cases, where do you draw the line. But my goodness gracious it comes down to 400,000 dollars, does Wal-Mart REALLY need that money back. Especially considering all the money that's going to be needed for her long term care.

 

If this was an average ho-hum person who could still live a normal life, I would completely agree, but this is a woman who is going to need hundreds of thousands of dollars just to try and live a normal life.

I saw this morning again in segment about this on CNN that Wal Mart spent over 5 billion on insurance payouts last year.

But getting that money back is what helps keep insurance rates low and what not, right? Maybe Wal-Mart should go with a different company I don't know but it's not like Wal-Mart pockets that money, as posted they spent over $5billion in insurance payouts. So yeah they probably do need that almost half million dollars back. I understand that this woman is in dire need of medical attention and that it will cost thousands of dollars but why is it up to Wal-Mart to give her the money? They are doing what they have to do. Yeah it sucks but Wal-Mart is a business not a charity.

I don't think they were forced. They had a clause that almost all insurance companies have. Why is it the right thing that the woman get double compensation for her injury? All the insurance did was get the money back they had already given her.

From the way the original article read I thought that there was nothing about double compensation but I could be wrong. It made it seem as though Wal-Mart wiping out all of the funds that were left. But I do feel that Wal-Mart felt forced in to doing this to avoid the bad publicity.

I'm still not letting the lawyer off the hook on this one. His actions were far more detrimental than Walmart's.

Which is probably why there's the claim that some Wal Mart management encourages employees to use government assisted health care. The more this happens, the higher the profits.

Isn't that the way a market, capitalistic system is supposed to operate?

 

You get companies to fall in line with the way of thinking but consumers being upset with them and complaining to get them to change their policies?

All these people whine and cry about putting Mom and Pop's out of business. Well mom and pop's wouldn't go out of business if the customers still shopped there, its not Wal Marts fault, its the consumer who shops at Wal-Mart. All thats happened is Wal Mart has provented these "mom and pops" from gouging the consumer. We've all seen these "mom and pop" gas stations in these rural areas charging 20 or 30 cents more a gallon...Why? Because they can cause there's no competion....Wal-Mart ended all that. I worked at Wal-Mart for over 2 years in college, it helped me pay the bills and they provide goods at a competitive price.If you don't like it, don't shop there!!!

I worked at a Wal-Mart Pharmacy for 2 years as well during college. I don't hate the place and still shop there from time to time. If I needed to, I would go back there and work too. That being said, in the time there and the time away from there you come to realize some great things they do, and some awful things they do. Most of the great things they do come from a business side of things and the terrible things they do generally come from a service or personnel side of things. They know that people are going to come there and buy things, so service isnt really an issue or a point of emphasis on training.

 

I said that to say this, they dont really care about the employee. They know if they get rid of you, they can just find another guy to do the same thing at about the same level that you did, and probably for cheaper since you have already gotten your raises if you have been there a while. They don't care about this lady, they care about their money. I don't know that they even care about their name that much because people are just going to shop there because they are cheaper than most other places. This was an effort to maybe save a little face. That 400k is probably going to come out of the employees year end bonus...

I shop where I can the best price possible depending on what I'm shopping for. One thing for sure is price's are going up and the our weekly pay isn't.
