March 28, 200818 yr Came home to sleep for a while (no sleep in 48 hrs.) and thought I'd unwind by checking in and saw this thread. Thanks BF. Mom went into the hospital at 5:30 Tuesday morning because she started to bleed. She is on massive blood thinners and they just make her blood so thin. When we got to the hospital they started her on massive amounts of all kinds of drugs. They ended up giving her 2 units of blood because her blood count was so low. When we were in the ER she started jerking, and I know this sounds silly, but she started jerking in her shoulders. When the jerking would start her heart rate would go up to 200. This happened 3 times in the ER and then stopped. Yesterday afternoon she started jerking all over her body. After a while that seem to let up and I decided to come hom to sleep and my sister stayed with her overnight. This morning at 1:30 my sister called and told us to get to the hospital because something was happening to Mom and that her room was full of people working with her. When we got there they told us that she has suffered a major seizure. Mom has never had a seizure in her life. They did a CT of her head today and that came back just fine. They have her scheduled for a MRI today and another test to show her brain waves (can't think of the name of that test right now). She is extremely weak and is still shaking a bit. They have started her on an IV that, they say, will help with the seizures. Right now we are at a place where we don't know what is going to happen. Mom has been through so much and I just feel that her body is just trying to shut down. I pray that I am wrong but I have to understand that she just can't go on like this much longer. I also know that only God knows the second that he wants to bring someone home and we just have to realize that Mom is in his hands. It will be his will and we will just wait to see what he wants. Mom has always been such a fighter but sometimes the fight just goes out of you. I pray that she still has some fight left in her and that she can overcome this also. Thank you all so much for your prayers. This has been the hardest last 6 months of my life. There are times that I am just so tired I can't think straight but we will continue to do all we can for Mom. As my brother, who is with her now, said this morning, "I know we are tired but there will be a time that we can rest". Please continue to pray for my Mom. The only thing that gets me by some days is simply this.............God is Good All The Time.
March 28, 200818 yr Author RK - When you first started talking about her jerking motions, I was thinking it sounded like something I believe they call a "micro-siezure." They may need to check her CO2 level. The brain-wave test you were talking about is probably an EEG.

They may need to check her CO2 level. The brain-wave test you were talking about is probably an EEG. That was what I was thinking. A friend of ours had suffered from this type of seizure before.... We are still here, RK, as is God. Hang in there and have faith. Sometimes things look bleak...I went through that with PH....and then, poof, everything is back to "normal" again....I know that others on here have gone through this as well. When we get so tired, things look so bleak anyway. You do need your rest.
April 5, 200818 yr How many ways can you say tired:D They moved Mom from a regular room yesterday into a unit that helps with rehab. Of course it doesn't help her recovery when they told us yesterday morning that she nows has a staph infection. It seems as if she just can't win for losing. There are times that it is just so hard to understand the ways things are done. They did a Echo on Mom's heart a few days ago and they have yet to tell us what it says. Of course we all know that Mom's heart is bad and that it just can't hold out must longer but it sure would be nice to be told the results. I asked for and received a copy of the report but I can't understand a word it is saying. The heart doctor has only been in to see her once in this whole time and it's obvious to me that he "ain't" coming back. They still don't have her meds for the (seizure??), figured out so she stays in a drugged out state most of the time. When we got to this unit yesterday the PT person came by and went in to check out Mom and it was all I could do not to throw her out the window when she came out and gave her report. "I just don't see how we can help your mother at all, she can't lift her hands to her face, she doesn't seem to understand most of what I am saying". "It looks as if there is nothing to be done for her". So I said to her, "O-kay let's look at this for just a moment". "She has a staph infection that is making her feel really bad, her hands are so swollen that she can't move them, she is so drugged out on a drug, that I don't think she needs, that she can't keep her eyes open". "Don't you think that perhaps you have made a hasty decision and perhaps you need to come back on Monday when PERHAPS she might be feeling better". I don't claim to be the sharpest knife in the drawer but if I saw how swollen this woman's hands are, I do believe that I could understand that she can't feed herself or lift anything to her face. If it wasn't that I do want help for Mom, I would have looked at her and said, DUH! I pray that it's the drugs and the infection that is making Mom like this. It would break my heart if I thought that she has given up. But I will say that she is tired and for the first time in her life, she is saying exactly that, "Children I am so tired". Mom has fought a hard battle and if the good Lord is willing, I pray that she continues to fight but only she knows how much more of this she can take. Please continue to pray for my Mom because she truly is a great Mom and pray that she finds peace and some ease of her pain.
April 5, 200818 yr RK prayers certainly continue for your mother and for you and the famly as well. All of your updates have touched me, may God bless and be with your mother, you and family. Only God knows what is really going on and I know that he has a plan and is looking down upon your family. Stay strong and get some rest if you possibly can. Thoughts and Prayers from all of the Old Ramblers here in Raceland......
April 5, 200818 yr Rk, I know right now that it might seem as though your mom is giving up, however, she has been through a lot and she is tired...your body tells you when you need rest, maybe that is all she is doing is resting. Be positive for you, her and your family. She seems like a very strong women that can overcome many obsticles. Miracles happen...I know that for sure. Keep faith, keep strong, and when you need to rest, do so. Things will look better with rest. If you need to talk, please call. Prayers are still here.
