April 17, 200818 yr Hang in there girl.. I know it's a helpless feeling but remember to take of yourself too.. And Mr.RK also.. You always make me smile and I thank you for that. Yesterday afternoon a nurse came into Mom's room to put a feeding tube down her nose because they weren't going to be able to put the feeding tube in her stomach until today. It seems that this nurse tried 4 times to get the tube down and I suppose she knew she had done something wrong when Mom started having a problem breathing. They called in the lung doctor and according to my siblings he and a bunch of people came running into Mom's room with a cart. It seems that the nurse had poked a hole in Mom's lung. The lung doctor inflated her lung and they moved Mom to ICU. This morning they took her to surgery and inserted the feeding tube. My sister tells me that Mom is doing o-kay but is very tired and in a lot of pain. My family has told me not to come home because they are handling it just fine and that they don't see that Mom is any immediate danger. The doctor came in a few minutes ago and told my sister and brother that he is very pleased with her process. I will admit that I am a bit angry. If the nurse saw that she couldn't get the tube down the first time then why on earth did she try 3 more times and in the process put my mother's life in danger? It seems that my mom's saga is a neverending one but thank goodness that they got to her in time and at this point doesn't seem to be any problems with what was done. They are keeping her in ICU just to keep a close watch on her. You have to laugh or else you'd cry yourself silly. First they drop mom out of a lift and now they dig a hole in her lung. I wonder if this is usual with this floor or if they just made my Mom their special case. Sorry but this is just a daughter who is really put out right now.
April 17, 200818 yr RK - That is gross negligence on the part of that nurse and the hospital! Yes I do believe it is also. I plan on having a long long talk with someone in charge as soon as I get back into town. I am beginning to think that we are dealing with some people who aren't quite as up on things as they should be. Now, please understand me, I don't mean everyone because there have been a lot of people who have been wonderful and have taken great care of mom, but this two problems have been BIG problems. I will talk to someone in charge who knows exactly what this nurse is trained to do because it's obvious to me, that she isn't trained to insert a feeding tube. I do think that the hospital shouldn't charge Mom's insurance for this ICU stay considering that they are the reason she's there. Perhaps I will talk to them about that also.

Perhaps I will talk to them about that also.I'm not sure if that new law has been passed yet or not; but there was legislation in the works that would prohibit hospitals from being paid to treat problems that they caused.
