Billy "The ACC needs more Teams" Packer needs to shut it. Of the, what he percieved to be too few, 4 ACC teams that made the field, ONE made the sweet 16. So much for his beloved power conference. I count 2 (or 3 if you consider the A10 a mid major, which I don't) mid majors in that field, Billy.

I think one of the best stats I heard this morning was that the Southern and Sun Belt conferences have as many teams left (1) as the ACC does in the tournament.

Same goes for the SEC. Not much of a suprise as the SEC was admittingly poor this season.

 

I never hold much water to the statement that the NCAA tourny proves one conference is superior to the other, but it has held true as far as what people perceived the conference strengths this season...

Big 12: 2

Big 10: 2

ACC: 1

SEC: 1

Sun Belt: 1

Southern: 1

Has any Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA tourney ever had the best 16 teams in the country? ..................No, but this is a pretty good group and they have gotten it done on the floor .

They did what they had to do when they had to do it. They had to knock off Duke, G'town, UConn and the rest to get there. Best 16? Probably not. Earned their way there? YEP!

A majority of the time, we aren't going to see the best teams in the country at this time in the tournament, just the teams that are playing well right now.

 

Course that's always going to be the case, but if you wanted the best teams in the country, you would take away what makes the tournament so great.

 

Would you rather hear story #28,921 about Duke and their amazing program OR a fresh story on a team like Davidson that many of us know nothing about.

 

This tournament system has its flaws like anything else, but you can't beat the drama it provides every year.
