Exactly my thoughts. SC will have 3 starters next year who were all transfers.

Transfers really need to be looked into by KHSAA on a case by case basis. In some cases, these athletes should be required to sit out some time. I think those cases are rare overall, but they do happen. In Euton and Jackson's case, I'm not aware of all the details... I would hope that the KHSAA is though.

Many of the schools in the state tournament had transfers. Hazard had several, Homes - the Johnsons, Sheehan from Shelby originally started at another school. The last I knew, we live in a free country in which people can move for whatever reason they want to move. If you value sports, why wouldn't you be allowed to move to another location that has similar views and fits your needs. Recruiting kids is illegal! Opting to better your family in a different location is not! It is difficult to take when your arch rival gets a transfer, but we all like them when they come to the school we support. Scott County will have a loaded team next year. You don't penalize kids for moving. The rest of the state needs to raise the bar and compete.

Hazard only had 2 transfers and they both live together and 1 of there dads was hired as an asst. coach, the rest of Hazard's team is home grown.

I think the majority of the teams across the state are "home grown" but there are a few "programs" who indeed get transfers every other year and it just seems kind of funny that they all tend to migrate to one area "program"

The KHSAA really does need to mandate this and let the families know ahead of time whether or not their kid would be ruled ineligible.

They say no kid can transfer for athletic reasons But yet a highly touted kid's father loses his job and a Lexington school who is favored to win state without him suddenly has a job in the area so the kid can go to school there. Just seems funny that the school highly regarded to win the state title will have 3 transfers in their starting line up next year.

That has to send red flags to the KHSAA that something is going on.

What do they say? If there is smoke, there is :fire:

This is just a thought, but I bet if Whitakers Dad lost his job at Hazard considering the current job market in Scott Co. I would say he could find employment there quicker than a highly skilled point guard could penetrate and pitch.

Please explain about the "job market" in Scott Co. I'd love to hear this...

How is that having one of the best programs? How are other schools supposed to compete when they play by the rules and use what they have whereas a "program" is getting transfers anytime their "original" kids aren't up to par with expectations.

As far as the Johnson Brothers of Holmes, once again, they grew up in Covington and attended the Covington Independent Public Schools system until 8th grade, went to Taft (Cincinnati, OH) their freshman year, because of the job their mother had there, it was cut, so they went back to Holmes where she now works and where her sons both attend school. If anything Taft got the transfers, not Holmes.

You never cease to amaze me. I think if you think there are improprieties going on you need to report it to the KHSAA. Is this just a "hunch" or is there something you know? Who says the "original" kids arent up to par? This team would still be quite good without any kids from Rose Hill next year. Just because a kid doesnt find your schools good enough to transfer into, doesnt mean you need to make false accusations about some other school systems. Where do you think the kid should be going to school since you have it all figured out?

Kids like to play on good teams with other good players. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.

SC is a Lexington school?

You think SC got the dad a job in Lexington? It's all a big conspiracy. SC got the company to close down in Ashland so the kid could move to SC. Brilliant!

Who says the "original" kids arent up to par?
Actually, someone posted something along those lines earlier this week ...

Actually I believe that Scott County has a senior that will be one of the favorites for Mr. Basketball. And a junior that averaged about 14 points a game. They also have a freshman that is considered one of the best in the state, he was offered a chance to play at Oak Hill last year. The talent level was far from from low. Scott County is a program that kids want to play for, and Billy Hicks is a coach they want to play for.

I know all about Phares and Guyn and the rest. The poster I mentioned was talking about the freshman and sophomore classes, at least the homegrown part ...

1. Never said there were improperties going on, just that it seems weird the same school is getting transfers every other year.

2. As you like to say, this is a public forum where everyone is entitled to their own opinions. If you don't like it, don't read it. As long as I'm following the guidelines set by BGP I can post whatever I want.

3. Also I believe I never once said the kids weren't good. Go back and read my post and you'll see that I said they were a state title contender with or without the Rose Hill kids but it makes it easier to pick a school when looking to move when you have the option to play for a state title.

4. What do "my schools" have to do with anything? Last time I checked I was a UC alum. Not a Holmes alum.

Lastly, Never once did I say I had it all figured it out. Just stated facts that when a team is having transfers on their team every year it has to send red flags that something is going on. Nice try though.

If you think for once second SC would be favored to win the state title without the transfers you're sadly mistaken and I'm not just referring to Euton and possibly Jackson.

Never said it hurt my feelings. I could actually care less. I simply state the KHSAA needs to mandate transfers more closely. Example: A kid is ruled ineligible for going to a school less competitive than his current school but yet a kid is ruled eligible to go to a school more competitive than his current school?

Again with putting words in my mouth. Never said the school had anything to do with the dad's job but when his was terminated it makes it a lot easier to choose a school in an area that presents the opportunity of your son playing for a state title rather than going to one of the local schools in the area in which you already reside.

How is the Johnson brothers that much different than Euton? Euton's dad had to get a different job which geographically required a school change. The Johnson boy's mom has to get a different job. So they switch schools for that reason. If a student athlete moves 2 hours away from where they go to high school at why on earth should they not be able to play?

Let me ask you about 1 more scenerio. Lets say you are a parent at a high school where your son is a great athlete, but he won't develop like you think he should in that setting. If you are wanting him or her to be successful and earn a scholarship or if nothing else help your child's development both academically and athletically, what is wrong with that?

So are you saying that with the Euton's having to relocate, going to a place with a good basketball program should not even be considered by the family? There are a lot of factors that have to be considered don't see why this cannot be 1 of them.

The Johnson brothers were originally at Holmes and attended the Covington schooling system up until their 8th grade year. Their freshman year, their mother got a job at Taft, so her sons came with her. Her job was cut after that one year so she moved back to Covington and applied for a position at Holmes, where she originally was, and her kids were put back in to the school they were originally at, not a school two hours away.

How is the Johnson brothers that much different than Euton?
In several ways ...
