OVERACHIEVING?

They didn't make the region tourney and had one of the two best records in the region all year.

One thing, IMHO, that hurts McCreary is their early season schedule.

I don't see anything wrong with the schedule.

Okay, where are the GOOD teams? Where are the Corbins and South Laurels, where are some teams from other regions who can play, like Adair, or even a Warren Central, although they were down they could have given a nice test to McCreary Central. Or you can go straight up 27 to Lexington....

Congrats to Robert Jones on a well deserved coach of the year award in my opinion. Watts is a sophomore and he will be back next year to help the Raiders have another great year

Some decent 12th region teams, but getting out and playing some Lex. teams, etc. only helps.

For example, LC played West Jess, Bryan Station, Henry Clay, Manual, Dixie and Paintsville all before Christmas. Not to mention all the teams you listed at some point in the season.

Coach Jones is a great Coach and well deserving- some really good coaches in the 12th. Dont think all the above mentioned teams were ranked very high in the 12th region polls- If I remember West was either not ranked or tenth- Somerset was I think 8th or 9th and McCreary was top 4. Either way Jackson, Woods, Jones, Hammonds, Thacker, Shultz, Bottoms, Flynn, and many more are all good coaches. Sometimes because a team has success we over look what they achieve over the season. Only a couple of teams have had 20 win seasons in the 12th over the last 2 years or so and McCreary is one of them so hats off to Jones and his kids along with the staff and community they should all share in the success of the program

20 win seasons with a less than impressive schedule is just that less than impressive. I always thought this was a no spin zone.......

BTW I love Bill O'Reilly

........the true measure of the success of a program is the post season success, ask the Wizard: John Wooden.

Post Season does seperate the good from the best I will give credit where credit is due- the past few years certain programs have performed well- even if they were suppose too or some with lesser talent than others. Post Season does make the coach and program

Even thogh McCreary got upset in the District Coach Jones did an excellant job with his team this year. I saw MC play a couple times this year and back in the summer. I realize Watts is an extremely athletic kid with skills but he is only a 10th grader. The rest of his team are a nice group of role players and no disrepect intended but by no means a group that I would expect to dominate in that region. I agree it probably could have helped his chances in the post season if he had beefed up his schedule a little and taken a few more regular season loses. The fact is though Jones did win 24 games and I think kept his kids playing well for their ability thoughout most of the year. I know he got upset but if he squeezes by that first bad tounament game he very well was in as good a position to win the Region as anyone. I would not argue some other Coaches in the 12th did not deserve COY but I just don't really think any Coach deserved it any more than Jones.

There are a lot of questionable winners of the Coach of the Year. Ligon should've won in the 11th, instead of Hicks. Jon Jones in the 8th. The Greenwood coach in the 4th. Just to name a few. And that is just my opinion.

And the Boys coaches and the players will be honored at the Boys state tourney, not the girls. And Western Kentucky University is in Bowling Green, not Eastern.

Coach Jones is a heck of a coach. McCreary does not have 6'8" kids roaming the halls there and to win 24 is very good. Not only is he a good coach, he is a heck of a diplomat. Anyone who can get the two super powers talking again has got my vote. Im sure someone will understand this.

To get beat out in the first round of the district to a team with only four wins is not very good.

Congratulations Coach Jones you are deserving of this award. Like someone said this region has alot of good coaches.

IMO if you look at where Monticello was at Christmas last year , and look at where they are now, then a case could be made for Coach Upchurch.

I have to disagree with this. Jones had a fine season, but IMHO his team underachieved. Again. How can the coach of the year, with a player like Watts and a record of 24-5 get beat in the first round of the district and miss the region for the second straight year.

Call me a homer, or call me bias. Jeff Jackson should of won this award.

Alright.... you asked for it...... HOMER!!!!

Don't you figure the votes were probably in before the postseason?
