It was a good game to watch. I love to watch the players from Holmes get up and throw one down. Congrats to the Dogs!

Everyone can see a replay of last night's game on ICN 6 at 6:30 tonight.

I only saw the 2nd half but Holmes played some excellent defense. I think they have a very good chance at making a run. Good luck Holmes.

As for the game, as I said both Johnson boys are very, very good players.

 

Coach Henley deserves Coach of the Year. Just as the Holmes fans have been saying all year, I got to witness first hand some incredible athletes playing as unselfish of basketball that I have seen in the 9th region in a while. Even though Arrez is the type of player who can take his man 1 on 1 down the court, Holmes does not resort to that. Patience is so important in a game with no shot clock.

 

Good (if any) news for CovCath is that 29 of their points came from Maile and Shover, both of who will be tough to stop for anyone next year. If CovCath can develop a supporting cast (and some form of offense other then standing around) they will be a force.

After re-watching the game, man was that JJ dunk with about 2 minutes to go a nail in the coffin or what?

 

Maile is one hell of a player. He seemed to force too much in the second half though instead of letting things come to him like he did in the first half.

Great effort, great game by the both teams. Two very good teams coached by two very good coaches. When is the last time a team posted a record as good as this years Bulldogs? Speaking of records!!!!

Second only to Mote Hills at CCH - 195 wins - 52 losses (.789 winning percentage)

Once again, Congrats to Holmes, can't wait to see them play next week.

Put my vote in for the game changing moment coming at the end of the 3rd quarter. Cov. Cath. had the ball with about 30 seconds to go. Holding for 1 shot. At about 10 seconds Holmes traps Shover, a scrum ensues, bodies fly, Holmes comes out with the ball, yada, yada... Arrez lays it in for 2 at the buzzer. Instead of tied, down 1 or down

3, Cov. Cath. ends the 3rd down 5. Holmes gets the ball to start the 4th quarter. Cov. Cath. never recovered.

It was a great game. Holmes was just the better team. Good luck at Rupp!

I think the game changing moment may have been the steal and lay up that followed that... Gave them such momentum going into the fourth, and actually at that point, there is a huge difference in a 3 point game and a 5 point game...

Yes. He played probably the last 10 or so games.

Holmes was the better team, but it didn't seem CovCath did as good a job as they had done in the past at getting points out of their half court sets. Maile is a player and has the swagger that he is not intimidated by any situation, but sometimes I can see why others think he "forces" things too much. Still, a lot of CovCath's points last night came in situations that Maile was well defended and just decided to jump up and take the shot - most of which he made. He's a player and to me it seems like CovCath's offense works best, like it did previously against Holmes, when they incorporate him into the offense instead of relying upon him to be the offense.

 

I predict that with Maile and Shover and others back for CovCath, and the Johnson brothers, Pittman, Riley and others back for Holmes, we have not seen the last of this great rivalry.

 

In my 35 years of following Ninth Region basketball, I cannot recall a streak like this one between CovCath and Holmes that has now lasted 5 years where there were two teams that were so competitive and consistently the other's chief rival. It's transcended any one player from either school. I think that's pretty rare, and wouldn't at all be surprised to be reading posts in 10 years about how great this rivalry was.
