State Tournament Officials!

Condescending attitude? :rolleyes:I have been nothing but respectful to your opinion. It is just that, an opinion. I was trying to inform you of something that I know a great deal about. Are you too big-headed to be informed of something? I'm glad you have a great relationship with MANY officials, I wish more fans did but it doesn't make you an evaluator or know what's best for officials. I told you many times that I understood your point and I do but I was just trying to INFORM you of why the process was the best overall process. My apologies, I thought we were all adults here and I thought someone could handle being informed of something from someone who has a great deal of experience in the subject. I guess not!! (sarcasm)

Who makes you the expert? All your posts almost sound like Larry Boucher is writing them or one of his assistants. Are you trying to get his job and this is your way of proving that you are loyal? Other than you, I don't know how anyone can support a system that doesn't send the best officials to the State Tournament. Boucher's system is flawed and someone needs to step in and take some of his power away. Maybe a selection committee would be best and not give all the power to Boucher. True Blue and Gold was making some relavant points but it was obvious by your condescending attitude that you didn't want to hear them. Remember, we all have opinions and no one is the expert (even though you think you are:rolleyes:)

No, Alfred Smith is from the Louisville regions. I believe Sandlin lives in the 9th but works in the 8th, therefore, he was blocked out of both games.

Gotcha. :thumb:

Yes, AD's do have something to do with varsity officials and if you don't believe that you are in a fantasy world. I know of at least 3 officials that have been doing JV games for 3 years now because of an instance with 2 separate AD's. As bad as officiating has been over the past 5 years the KHSAA should find a better program. The current one is not working. It is not bringing new officials into the fold quickly enough and then there is not enough training to make sure they are competent once they are there. I think the current rating system is unfair and that the assigning secretary should be just that- an assigning secretary and not an evaluator.

What recourse does a coach have if he gets a bad official? I have been told only the assigning secretary to fuss at. Is this true? Because if it is that is a bad way to do things.

Like him or not, his judgement at Rupp was as good as anybody else's.

You may get your wish. Rumor at the Sweet 16 was this was Boucher's last year. Although I don't think that will change anything about the referee process. Coaches and ADs have too much control to begin with. It is NOTHING like the NCAAs.

Smith is from Georgetown and works in the BBA (10th and 11th region) along with Cary Lyle. Both of these guys would have been blocked on Sat., but why would have Sandlin been blocked out?

Sandlin lives in Northern Ky and cannot do HOLMES..Also works out of the 8th now and could not do Shelby Co..;)

I'm not sure if that is a compliment for him or an indictment of the other officials.

The problem with that scenerio is with the assigner, if he is allowing the AD's to influence him/her than he needs to be replaced. There are several reasons why we can not get new officials to come out and the number 1 reason is the way officials are treated. In my local association, not only basketball but football also, we have had success getting people to come out. The problem is getting them to stay. They are ran off from idiot fans who treat them worst than their dogs. Training for officials is better now than it ever has been in the past. Officials have more resources at their hands, they only have to seek it. There are camps everywhere all year long as well as tons of training online and on video.

In our area we have an NCAA official assigning us and who better to be an evaluator than that? I'm not saying that all regions are perfect and I do know some places still play politics with officials and it is very unfortunate but overall it is the best system. The other alternative is for officials to get games themselves and I hope you can see the problem with that process. The KHSAA uses the same process that most states and every other major officiating community uses because it's proven.

What would you suggest the KHSAA do?

:laugh: I guess all those camps and clinics and meetings that I've been to over the yrs means nothing and makes you an expert. You know, you're on here writing that the KHSAA needs to do this and needs to do that because they can't get officials to come out. The sad thing, is that people like you are part of the problem. Condescending attitude? You've been reading too much of TRue's posts. If you would go back and read my posts and not read the parts you want to read.......well, nevermind. It's like talking to a brick wall!! (Now, that's condescending)

Before the season starts coaches are given the opportunity to "scratch" officials.

*sigh* If you can't even see you own behavior, then I have nothing further to say. I have heard your arguments and stated why I don't agree with your ideas - which are the same as mine - opinions. The problem is, you don't see it that way. Mine are opinions and yours is the correct way.

I've said from the very beginning that I completely understand your point. I've said it in about 4 post. I know that the process is not perfect. I do know that this is the correct way, it's best proven time after time in thousands of different official's community. I'm not saying that the process can't be tweaked to make it better. Everything can improve but there isn't a better overall process. If there was than the NCAA would implement it and the NFHS would follow. This is my last post on this thread.

I dont think he is a bad ref from everything I have seen the last two years. He had that late call that looked pretty bad last night, but that is one of the only ones I can really remember right off. He takes control of the game and usually gets his calls right.

The tall, dark haired ref...right? If anyone saw the first half of the Paintsville v. Holmes game, then you know he totally and unnecessarily took control of that half and made some questionable calls.

Finals game. From my perspective, Miller was definitely protected. Him catching the ball on the block and drop stepping to the basket got fouls called on Holmes on more than a couple of occasions. Coming from someone that was fortunate enough to see every game of the tournament, I can't recall a foul being called on that type of move with that kind of contact the entire tournament...until the finals when Miller touched the ball.

Before the season starts coaches are given the opportunity to "scratch" officials.

I understand that. What I am talking about if you get one that calls bad game after game I would think you could send tape to khsaa and let them see for themselves and do somthing about it. If I am not mistaken that is what you can do in the SEC.
