I spoke to someone today who was at the game with no ties to either school who said it was a well officiated game and one of the better games he had seen all year. With that said, 2 of the officials on that game will be calling in the state tournament next week. Not bad to get 2 state tournament officials on the same first round region game.

Part of the disparity in free throws could be that, if I remember correctly, HHS missed front ends of one and ones.

Funny about the three second non-calls is that Conner almost never had any one inside, they would at times have a player at the free throw line but almost never posted up.

 

You must not have been at the game as HHS did not shoot any one and ones. First free throws HHS took were with 2 minutes left in the fourth, Towles fouled on a shot in close. Second free throws taken with 22 seconds left in the game, Adler fouled on a three.

Congrats to Conner they made plays when the HHS kids didn't. I just hate to see a game called by refs from out of region. Why play all year long with your regions refs and then the most important time of the year lets get people we have no idea how they call. With 2 minutes to go Conner had shot 16ft to HHS 0. I guess Conners man defense is not as aggressive as HHS zone. I think the final total was 20FT for Conner and 5 for HHS 3ft for HHS with 20secs to go. I would say Conner is the runner up to ND. HHS kids didn't seem to handle the pressure of being the favorite very well at all. Just make you think how BC and ND do it every year as the favorite. I cant see how its wasn't and upset. But good luck Conner you earned it tonight.

Did you have a good angle on the charge called on Highlands Cutter (24). We were sitting at halfcourt right behind the scorers table. I as well as a friend thought it was a good call, but our angle was bad. There was some barking about that call also.

Disagree a little here. From my vantage point which was at that end of the gym, Hodges was definitely waiting but was under the basket. IMO these should be blocking fouls on the defender because the player goes up for a layup and has nowhere to land.

 

There were also numerous 3 second violations that were not called against Conner which worked to their advantage as they were able to pass the ball into that area and then kick it out for open looks on the baseline and/or wing.

 

These were not reasons why Highlands lost the game however. The difference in this game was Kremer and number 15 I believe who probably scored in the neighborhood of 16 to 18 points. Really do not understand why Hope Cutter and Mallory Adler did not see more minutes. Both were very effective when on the floor which IMO was not enough.

I agree Kremer had a good game. She got herself in foul trouble in the first half and didn't play much, but played very well in the second half.

 

Conner got the lead by keeping Highlands to one shot. Highlands came back when they started getting second shots late in the first half. Conner did a good job in the second half of limiting those second chance points.

 

Conner doesn't play a #15. Maybe you mean #12? The second guard, Allison Long.

Conner won the game plain and simple. Officials were not that good and I will just leave it at that. Okay they were pretty bad!

Birds did an excellent job of using the full court press to get back into the game. Hodges, Kremer, and Long did a nice job of making big shots down the stretch to pull the Cougars back in front.

 

Big win for Conner who should be a heavy favorite in the first semi-final Friday.

 

I saw the game and I have to say the complete opposite. I think this might have been what cost the Birds the game. Yeah, they made a couple of steals to cut the lead to two at one point late but Conner took a time out, adjusted and found HHS weakness and went on a 8-0 run. Nice win for Conner, they deserve to move on. Hate to see everyone calling Conner the winner before the tourney is over though. That is sorta the same thing they did with HHS. I hope Conner can overcome the upset bug and not come out flat the next game. They are in a very dangerous situation.

If you think Cutter and Adler should have been in more, where was Hoerner when HHS was trying to come back. She keep them in the game for one stretch and all of a sudden was not in the game. I agree I could not figure out why some players were in and others out. The sub patterns made no sense at all at times.

I don't know about the dangerous situation. I think they're in the best situation possible right now. They got as good a draw as they could have hoped for after losing in the District. They could have had to beat Highlands, ND, & Boone to get the Region. THAT would have been a dangerous situation.

Are you kidding me? As another poster said, floor position has nothing to do with a player control call. The HHS player should have pulled up for a short jumper off the glass. As I stated before Hodges was waiting and where she was in relation to the basket is irrelevant!
