Hillary Just Said Something I like...

Everybody seems to want more and more for people in public service jobs around here until someone actually proposes something for them...and then everyone thinks it is a "load of crap".

Listen people, I did not start this thread to anger anyone. Or to cause anyone to "rolleyes" constantly. Some of you are getting offended when that is completely unnecessary! It's quite funny actually.

Who pays for the government? What makes you believe that your neighbor should pay for your education and his own?

I honestly don't think my neighbors pay taxes. I never see them work!

The age of entitlement, plain and simple.

Gimme, gimme, gimme. Just sad.

 Yeah because there aren't worse things out there than a college student who has accrued thousands of dollars in loans and was hoping that maybe there's a chance they would be paid off for him. That's AWFUL!

With all of the complaining from the left about how bad things are financially, yes it is. In fact I really can't believe that anyone on the left would support this since they are the ones that continue to tell us how badly off the economy is and how poorly funded the government is.

Where do you suppose funding for this would comefrom?

I have no clue, she didn't talk about specifics. It was just something that caught my attention, so I posted it here.

At least it started a good discussion and fired a few people up.

It's rewarding people who want to do a public service job.

It would not help them. The economy would be under so much pressure that overall the growth rate of standard of living would slow down so much that it would wind up hurting everyone rather then helping them. And when the standard of living goes down, it will hit the bottom (least wealthy) rung of the consumers hardest.

This is a load of crap! While I appreciate people in puplic service jobs, no one twisted your arm and made you go in that direction. This is a desperate attempt on her part to gain the votes of college age kids. Obama is kicking her butt, and she is trying anything she can to turn things around.

So what you are saying is...

While you appreciate people who are willing to risk their lives, teach our children...

You don't want to reward them any for doing so?

I honestly doubt that this will be the one thing that makes the economy crash...

Especially after spending billions upon billions on a war. You think this would be the final straw?

First of all, what do you mean make the economy "crash"? I am pointing to the fact that with the way Hilary would plan on doing this (higher taxes) each individual would have less money to put into the market for loanable funds. As the supply of loanable funds goes down, the interest rate for loanable funds would go up. Firms and entrepreneurs would be less likely take out loanable funds (due to the high interest rate) and therefore have less investment projects, such as new factories and research & development.

I will agree that the war isn't good for the economy but it also is not that bad. While I don't completely believe (like some) that the war is great for an economy, part of the war's benefits that those military workers are not receiving unemployment benefits, which is expensive

You pretty much said that something like this would hurt everyone because...

"The economy would be under so much pressure that overall the growth rate of standard of living would slow down so much that it would wind up hurting everyone rather then helping them. And when the standard of living goes down, it will hit the bottom (least wealthy) rung of the consumers hardest."

I just don't think this would be the final straw that lowers everyone's standard of living.

It's not like it matters anyways, Barack Obama will win the democratic election and probably beat John McCain too. Hillary, like some have said, is probably just trying to get votes.

That is why I stated in my original post that I'd have to look into this more before making any decisions.

I just don't think this would be the final straw that lowers everyone's standard of living.

I did not put it clearly- it would not lower their standard of living, it would slow down how fast the standard of living would increase. So this plan would be less beneficial to consumers than just leaving it as is.

 Yeah because there aren't worse things out there than a college student who has accrued thousands of dollars in loans and was hoping that maybe there's a chance they would be paid off for him. That's AWFUL!
It is in my eyes. What's wrong with YOU paying your own debt? Why should I or anyone else have to foot your bill? Just what's so special about you? The fact that you laugh about this is quite dispiriting honestly.
So what you are saying is...

While you appreciate people who are willing to risk their lives, teach our children...

They get paid, that's their reward just like anybody else. If it's not enough for you, look into another line of work.
Whether it would happen if she's President, I do not know...

But she said that she plans on forgiving all debt (student loans) for students who go into public service jobs, like law enforcement. Seeing as how that is the field I'm really interested in going into...she might be convincing me to vote for her. Definitely makes me think. I'll have to see if I can find out more of what she's talking about.

I paid for my college education, why not pay for your own?

Join the military, they will pay for your education and deservedly so.

I said I'll have to look into things more. This is something that makes me consider voting for her. When you have loans into the thousands, it's significant.

I have a couple of loans in the thousands right now. It is my responsibility to pay them not the government.

Why wouldn't you feel obligated to pay back your lenders?

Because those lenders, the government, will more than get that back in how much they underpay law enforcement workers, in this case.

I am with you Halfback, law enforcement agents, do not get paid nearly enough and if this is a little incentive to encourage someone to donate their life for the benefit of society, than I am all for it.
