Oil looks to be staying over $100 for a while and may go up to $120. This is a serious crisis. Most of our transportation industry from trucks to ships needs diesel which is already almost $4. The trucking industry and almost every other industry are only going to keep hiking their prices to make up for it, which we are only going to feel more, and it's only going to put this economy further into a hole.

It's pretty amazing that people want to blame Bush for gas prices or indifference toward them when Democrats are proposing an $18 billion increase in taxes on oil companies, which will drive gasoline prices higher, while refusing to allow drilling in ANWAR and other areas.

 

The Bush administration has proposed an energy policy has proposed initiatives that would have slowed the increase of gasoline prices and Congress has nixed all of them. Where is the outrage at Democrats who have proposed nothing to moderate the rate of increase in gasoline prices?

 

Problem is the people don't understand. The oil companies are setting aside billions and billions of dollars into a "new source fund," when the new source is not coming anytime soon and the prices continue to hike.

 

If we had a quicker answer to use that money and develop the technology to bring prices down people wouldn't attack them. A lot easier said than done huh?

You may look at any new oil field as a short term solution. Exploiting any natural resource responsibly involves a series of short term solutions to ensure that the supply meets demand.

 

Doing nothing, or by raising taxes on the oil industry, doing worse than nothing will only ensure that gasoline prices continue to soar. I am waiting for liberals to explain how levying punitive taxes on the oil industry and increasing their cost of doing business will result in lower prices at the pump.

This is one of those things that the president (an embattled one at that) has to know. Making a statement like this simply makes him look all those worse and puts even more ammunition in the packs of his opponents.

Maybe one of the daily briefings should include the cost and change in the traditional "market basket".

IMO, the only way to lessen the price of fuel (oil, gas), is to develop alternative fuel sources, and decrease demand. Unfortunately, Americans are not willing to decrease demand. That's no one's fault but their own.

:thumb: You really can't keep complaining about high gas prices if you are going to keep paying for it. Obviously people are still paying for it, they have the money, so I don't see why people constantly complain about it. If you want the price changed, do something.

I actually read, before the first of the year, that some economist were predicting $4.00 a gallon around spring time.

When I say reduce, I mean drastically. It would take a combination of reduced use by Americans and a couple of viable, cost efficient, alternative sources. From a governmental perspective, it would take increased funding of the R & D of alternative sources. Nothing is going to impact the price immediately. This is a long-term project.
