Stephens is #3. Shot lights out last night. By and large, he just rotates around the three point line looking for an open shot. But he hit 4 of them last night and it really killed Boone.

 

Oh, yes. The youngster that looks VERY young. He does have a nice-looking shot. I've just never seen him shoot much in games. Good for him.

I think from the start of the game it looked like Boone expected to win and Conner wanted to win.

 

The open looks that Stephens was getting was because he would back screen for Pugh, his man(Gabbard) had to hedge on Pugh, then Stephens would pop out at the top of the key and be open. Boone obviously and rightly were more focused on stopping the entry pass to Pugh on the block.

 

Who was the other big boy who started? He did not start earlier in the year. He is whom I was talking about.

Point guard will most likely be Jamel Riley. I could be wrong though. I know they have two freshman playing jv though. The Herndon kid is also a point guard. But then again Ricardo Johnson could potentially run the point as well.

 

As for the JV championship I believe it was between CCH and Ryle so one of those two.

Dixie will be losing a bunch of seniors and will be re-building for the 2 years after next so not sure if they will be up there. For Boone being up there next year and to make a run they need to forget about AAU ball and play some D. They like to over react on some calls from the refs and get there heads out of the game when things do not go there way but this could be due to being a young team. I believe if Boone would play D and forget about just offense they will be alright. With that said they need to look for Earls and Mcfarland more in the future to run the offense through and everything will open up for the guards. Pretty much to make is simple they need to play organized basketball and not aau basketball. This is what I saw from the 2 games I saw them play.

 

I do not believe that Boone players are any more consumed with AAU ball than school ball (although that is definitly where most college coaches seem to watch players nowadays and where most letters and scholarships originate anymore).

 

Boone does need to play better defense to win more games, but a lack of defense during the high school season has nothing to do with AAU ball. At least two of their core players/starters did not even play AAU ball this past summer, and one has never played. Like any team, Boone has some players that play better defense than others, and players that play worse defense than others. I have also seen certain Boone players overreact to calls during the season, but to stereotype all Boone players that way is not true.

 

I think that Earls already gets quite a few touches per game. Of the two or three offensive plays that Boone did seem to run, at least one of them seemed to be to feed the post. In fact, I think NKY.com had Earls taking 16 shots a couple of games ago, and it was the most on the team. Most of Boone's shots seemed intended for Earls and Krohman to take, and I think other coaches picked up on that and adjusted accordingly late in the season.

 

Boone does need to play less one-on-one basketball on offense. When they are standing on the perimeter and trying to make something happen, it often seems to me that is more from trying to make something happen due to a lack of designed or executed movement in the offense (except for Krohman running back and forth from baseline to baseline without solid screens being set for him). But these are just my opinions, and everyone else on this board has them too.

Boone is a good young team. Lets hope they learned from this year and build off the positvies and correct the mistakes. Good teams are that good. Great teams control their own futures. Boone will be back and only time will tell if they are a good team or great team.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Holmes and Covcath both will reload again next year.

 

Holmes returns Pittman and both Johnsons as well as a JV team that only lost 1 game this year. Boone will definetly be in the top 2 or 3 though.

 

Following 9th region basketball, I see Boone with the strongest upcoming kids. The JV and freshman squad combined for maybe less than 5 losses all year. None of the fresman were allowed to move up a level, so their talent wasn't seen as much. They finished the year winning the championship and having only 1 loss. I agree Cov Cath has some upcoming talent, Holmes I'm not sure about. But overall, if the Boone team is put together right and they begin to play aggresive TEAM ball, they will be hard to beat. I don't see anyone beating the JV squad next year while they are with Coach Downs.

I had not heard that but if you take him out of the freshmen class at Boone that would bring them back to the pack a little bit.

Boone will be good in future years but I don't see them winning region until possibly their senior year. Both Holmes and Covcath will reload next year. Holmes returns a JV squad who went 20-1 without R. Johnson or J. Johnson ever seeing a JV minute. Throw in the fact that Holmes had 2 freshman playing up on JV,( one being 6'5) as well as starting and the future looks very bright for them.

 

Newcath won the JV regional and Covcath was the only JV team to beat Holmes. IMO those 3 will be at the top next year with Boone battling them for the 2-4 spot.

Boone will be good in future years but I don't see them winning region until possibly their senior year. Both Holmes and Covcath will reload next year. .

 

IMO CCH will not "reload" next year. They will have 2 studs in Mitch Shover and Luke Maile. They will then ahve a bunch of hard-playing role players.
