Conner 67 Boone County 57

Featured Replies

That's very understandable, highschool kids are not always consistent shooters that for sure. Like I said congrats to the Cougars, they will be a tough out in the region since it's at Conner and I think the Cru will have a hard time beating them in the championship.

Wow big win for Conner. Congrats to them. The championship will be a good one. Two very good coaches and teams this should be a great championship game. And if it is true this will be the Crusaders last game in the 33rd district as they prepare to move on to the 34th next year. Good luck to each team.

Hate to say I told you so!

Not really though. I love it. Cougars played so hard tonight. I can't wait to see the rematch of last seasons 33rd Final on Friday night.

Not to mention St. Henry's last 33rd Final ever!

Go get em' CRU!!!

I saw Conner play Holmes near the end of the season. I told my buddy that they will beat Boone.

I liked the moxy they showed against Holmes. They didn't quit and continued to battle...something I didn't see from Boone in their game with Holmes.

Conner made open shots that night and Thomas was a crafty little guard. Lang, I think his name is...the thin lefty could shoot and they have a serviceable big guy.

Evidently it came true tonight.

I would definetely like to know why they can get it done in AAU but not in high school ball.

1. AAU they are playing against kids their own age.

2. AAU its not like its only Boone players. I'm sure Euton and JAckson had a little something to do with their success on the AAU circuit as well.

As to the game, can't wait to hear wildcatfans excuse for this one.

Congrats to Conner. Nobody can bash Boone's coach for this loss. He has beaten them 3 times this year, but tonight his squad was just outplayed by a team who wanted it more. It's very tough for a team to beat another one 3 times in one year, let alone 4.

Good luck to the Cougars in region.

Jimmy Dale Hicks has a deep understanding that the regular season is all just a practice for the real show at tournament time. He may be the best coach in the state at getting his team to rise to the occasion in March (or late Feb.). Congrats to the Cougars!

He has won what? Isn't their last regional championship 1993?

I don't think that Plato was claiming anything other than the fact that the coach knows how to get his teams to step up big time and play spoiler quite often when most have counted them out. No matter their Sweet 16 appearances, they're consistently a dangerous team come tourney time. Not many teams have this sort of turn around year after year.

Huge win for Conner. Congrats! Very disappointing finish to a nice season for Boone. You can have all that talent but if you don't have someone directing them, it doesn't matter.

Agreed with this all along the last three years...

Well said, I am positive there will be some fits thrown in Florence tonight.

I believe there will be big changes before next year.

Before someone gets on here and claims that Boone coaching lost this one, the simple fact of the matter is that Boone missed ALOT of wide open looks. You can't ask a coach to draw up an offense that results in layups every time. Boone has some talented players and good shooters, but a few of them were off the mark tonight. Conner also had a couple of guys really step up nicely. Aaron Stephens, for one, had a great game.

Stats for the game: Boone shot 41% from the field. Individual Boone stats:

Krohman 0-6 (0-5 from 3), 0 points

Earls 2-7, 6 points

Flannery 6-12 (2-5 from 3), 15 points

McFarland 9-13, 18 points

Gabbard 4-11 (1-5 from 3), 9 points

Popp 2-5 (1-3 from 3), 9 points

Cotton 0-2, 0 points

A. Brown 0-1

Stephens for Conner was the wildcard and shot well. He was left open frequently and hit his shots. Most I've seen him score. He usually gets 2 or 3 a game. Good luck to Conner. Their coach had them prepared, and they played well. Back to the drawing board for Boone. Hard for anyone to beat a team 4 times in one season.

I didn't think their shot selection was bad at all and many of their looks were wide open. They just didn't shoot well tonight and certainly Conner played solid defense as well, forcing quite a few turnovers.

Boone had only 7 turnovers the entire game, according to NKY.com.

Almost every player on Boone played their heart out and left it on the floor. 3 wins over a team by a coach is all well and good, but you have to win the ones that count.

Some points I'd like to make about this game:

1. Eric Thomas is like watching another version of Brett Lafollette. The kid plays with so much heart and energy. What he does carries over to the other players on his team.

2. Conner had so less talent last night it wasn't even funny. But they had so more heart and wanted it more than Boone did.

3. McFarland needs to realize that he is good, but not that good. Take notes from his brother, David was/is very classy and shows so much respect to everone and everything about the game.

4.Coach McQuery does a good job with these kids and is a very well respected Coach among other coaches in the state. With that said its sad to hear people from Boone pushing for him to be replaced for the past two seasons.

5.Boone shouldn't be dissappointed, they had a good year......but if they don't win the region next year they should be.

6.Here's an idea. Don't leave Aaron Stephens open!

7.Does Conner have anyone besides Thomas that can dribble? But even with that said does Thomas ever use his left hand?

8.Jeremy Broyles stepped up big last night......good defense on McFarland the last 3 minutes, 3 big free throws, and two big buckets last night. Congrats to very nice young man that comes from a very nice family!

9.How does Todd Krohman average 15ppg and not a score a single point?

10.Who was the last 20+ win team to not make the Regional tournament in the 9th?

11.Jim Hicks is the most underrated coach in the 9th Region and probably the state. I dont agree with everything he does, but he somehow always has his teams ready for the tournament.

I'm curious how many times a team as gone from not getting out of the district one year to winning the region the next year. It would seem like an improbable task.
