I'm curious how many times a team as gone from not getting out of the district one year to winning the region the next year. It would seem like an improbable task.

Coach Hicks is an awesome coach and an even better guy. Too bad he got out of Ryle before coming the Varsity coach there. :irked:

I wasn't able to get to the game, but the word I got was that McFarland had a mismatch on offense and could've scored much more. Problem being it wasn't recognized and others were shooting, albeit open looks, when they shouldn't have been shooting. An effective coaching strategy would've been to spread the floor and give McFarland the ball. Again, just what I heard...someone confirm or deny.

HUGE win for Hicks and his cougars. Hicks does an outstanding job getting his team ready come playoff time. Aaron stephens stepped up and played a great game. Erik Thomas also was solid for conner. That district should be use to that matchup in the finals. But wait till next year, right Wildcatfan.

Last I checked it takes a TEAM to win and there are only a few Boone co kids playing on those AAU teams. Not to say they are not very good basketball players but the reason the AAU teams do so well is because they also have the Eutons, Jackson's, other recruits from Ohio, etc etc.

 

Not to mention the coaching is different.

Boone had only 7 turnovers the entire game, according to NKY.com.

 

I find that hard to believe. I would guess that McFarland had four travelling calls on him alone.

Stephens is #3. Shot lights out last night. By and large, he just rotates around the three point line looking for an open shot. But he hit 4 of them last night and it really killed Boone.

Very true. Boone seemed to game-plan mainly against Thomas and Pugh this took their attention off the other players and it hurt them badly in the end.

McFarland had the ball quite a bit. Several of his opportunities (including a acouple of waived off baskets) were lost due to travelling calls. He also badly missed a couple of three throws. I would say that he got the appropriate number of looks. As far as a mismatch, Conner had a couple of different people on him at various times. It wasn't just a one-on-one thing. He did drive to the basket very nicely several times. The bottom line is that some other people for Boone didn't step up and Conner's offense outplayed Boone's defense.

And the fact that nobody plays team defense in AAU which also makes it a different game.

Almost every player on Boone played their heart out and left it on the floor. 3 wins over a team by a coach is all well and good, but you have to win the ones that count.

 

Playing your heart out (which I agree they did) and executing are two different things. Conner also played their hearts out. I don't care who the teams are - winning four games in a season against the same opponent is a pretty darn tough task.

Mcfarland seemed to have an attitude problem especially with the refs. No matter how bad the refs are you can't lose control in a big game like this one.

I don't think that Plato was claiming anything other than the fact that the coach knows how to get his teams to step up big time and play spoiler quite often when most have counted them out. No matter their Sweet 16 appearances, they're consistently a dangerous team come tourney time. Not many teams have this sort of turn around year after year.

This may be so but I think they were trying to say is that Conner is a tough team in the Playoffs and often play spoiler to some teams, for example tonights game. Once again Conner stepped up well and sent a very talented Boone team back home to watch the remander of the playoffs from the stands.
