IMO CCH will not "reload" next year. They will have 2 studs in Mitch Shover and Luke Maile. They will then ahve a bunch of hard-playing role players.

I'm not too familiar with what CCH has besides Shover and Maile, as I didn't see their JV play but I'll take your word for it since you probably know more about them than me.

Boone will be good in future years but I don't see them winning region until possibly their senior year. Both Holmes and Covcath will reload next year. Holmes returns a JV squad who went 20-1 without R. Johnson or J. Johnson ever seeing a JV minute. Throw in the fact that Holmes had 2 freshman playing up on JV,( one being 6'5) as well as starting and the future looks very bright for them.

 

Newcath won the JV regional and Covcath was the only JV team to beat Holmes. IMO those 3 will be at the top next year with Boone battling them for the 2-4 spot.

 

Don't forget that Boone's J.V. came in second last year without Earls playing and had a good record this year without 5 of the sophomores playing. Three of those sophomores started J.V. as freshmen last year. They also have a 6-7 freshman and could have big 6'3 Trevan Brown coming up if he doesn't end up at Cooper.

The new high school is really going to hurt Boone though. Cooper will be taking a lot of athletes away in the next couple years.

I don't think Cooper will hurt Boone as much as Conner and then Ryle. Boone has the smallest number of students of the three that will go to Cooper. As far as I know, only one basketball player in grades 9-11 is in Cooper's district.

I do not believe that Boone players are any more consumed with AAU ball than school ball (although that is definitly where most college coaches seem to watch players nowadays and where most letters and scholarships originate anymore).

 

Boone does need to play better defense to win more games, but a lack of defense during the high school season has nothing to do with AAU ball. At least two of their core players/starters did not even play AAU ball this past summer, and one has never played. Like any team, Boone has some players that play better defense than others, and players that play worse defense than others. I have also seen certain Boone players overreact to calls during the season, but to stereotype all Boone players that way is not true.

 

I think that Earls already gets quite a few touches per game. Of the two or three offensive plays that Boone did seem to run, at least one of them seemed to be to feed the post. In fact, I think NKY.com had Earls taking 16 shots a couple of games ago, and it was the most on the team. Most of Boone's shots seemed intended for Earls and Krohman to take, and I think other coaches picked up on that and adjusted accordingly late in the season.

 

Boone does need to play less one-on-one basketball on offense. When they are standing on the perimeter and trying to make something happen, it often seems to me that is more from trying to make something happen due to a lack of designed or executed movement in the offense (except for Krohman running back and forth from baseline to baseline without solid screens being set for him). But these are just my opinions, and everyone else on this board has them too.

I wonder who will be sharing duties at the point with Shover and if Isler will be a factor. I only saw him play in the 1st Holmes game, but thought that he looked liked he could develop and the Colonels could have a decent inside threat next year.
