Kenton County Schools put 3 schools into the 3 Regional Tournaments

Featured Replies

As the season winds down and everybody is starting to find out the teams that will be competing for the regional championships, I would like to know if any other school sytems in the state of KY have 3 teams from the same school system competing for 3 different region championships? The 3 Kenton County schools are Simon Kenton in the 8th Region, Dixie Heights in the 9th Region and Scott in the 10 Region.

Interesting fact. I guess it demonstrates how Kenton County is "chopped up" into three different regions as much as anything else.

Yes, If im not mistaken Scott and SK have made it to region every year they have been in their new regions not just in basketball, but in baseball as well.

Seems a bit ridiculous to me but I'm sure the KHSAA in their infinite wisdom has a very clear explanation for this. LOL

Guessing they'll add a few more to the mix as the Districts wind down? Must be a HUGE county to span three regions??

Its not a small county, the KHSAA just did something stupid when they realigned the regions. I know for a fact that Scott asked to be moved, and the word from some of the higher-ups is that SK had no choice (not sure if that is true or not). They really should all be in the 9th. SK has to drive many many miles to play an out of district regional opponent. To put it in perspective, they aren't even in one of the NKY regions here on BGP's contests.

I would imagine that Kenton is the only school system in the state with schools in three different regions for basketball, much less have them make it to the regional tournament.

I would really be impressed if all three made it to the Sweet 16. That would be an achievement for the ages.

Scott (kenton) wanted nothing to do with CovCath, Cov Holmes, or Cov Holy Cross after Ludlow moved out of the 35th!

I agree, all including Campbell County and Bishop Brossart should be in the Ninth. In all fairness to CC, BB and Scott, having to drive over a 100 miles (one way) to attend a Regional Basketball Tournament is just a bit much. To me at least it makes no sense at all.

BTW, One day the below will happen, mark my word on it:

Region 6 a Jefferson County District School

Region 7 a Jefferson County District School

Region 8 a Kenton County Distict school

Region 9 a Kenton County District school

Region 10 a Kenton County District school

Then wait to hear the howling and rightfully so, from the rest of the Commonwealth, when five of the sixteen teams in the Sweet Sixteen are from two county public schools systems! And some thought the Private/Public debate was huge!

I thought the 10th region was at Mason County? If so that is not even close to 100 miles one way..

Congrats to Kenton County schools. And more good things to follow. I was watching a replay of Simon Kenton's freshman football championship win over Highlands on TBNK television a couple of weeks ago. Impressive. Simon Kenton's JV basketball team was very tough this year, as well.

Going strictly by population percentage, Louisville is under represented in the Sweet 16. If you included Oldham with Jefferson, the two counties should be getting 3 Sweet 16 births.

That would make the mountain schools happy...

Coach where have you been at, the 10th Region is being played in Mt. Sterling this year! :D
