Wrong! H.C. Is $3,500.00 plus 18 extended days employment. A.C. is $2,500.00 plus 8 days extended employment.

If that is true for Pike County, I have even more respect for the gentlemen who coach these kids..

True love of football

You are correct, as my data was from a few years ago.

Does football get 3 or 4 paid Asst. Coaches now?

Depends on the number of kids that are on the team. The B.O.E. would have no problem staffing 10 paid coaches if the numbers justified it.

I'm pretty sure it is not based on the number of kids, I will know by tomorrow though.

That is the way that I understood it also, that it was based on the class and number of players.

Danville pays about 100,000 per year. Coach Sam Harp is in two A.

Are they paid too much or not enough? Depends on their agenda.

If the HS coach is approaching it like a career and HS is just a stepping stone to the next level, then he/she should not feel like they are taken advantage of and they need to pay their dues like the rest of the working world. In this situation, consider yourself a co-op and assume your experience is part or your payment. If you're looking for the big pay-off at the next level then you have to take the big pay-less to get there. It's not different in any job.

Now, If you are there for the love of the kids and the love of the game (not the the career coach does not feel the same on this matter) and have a different career, and teach them what you know and are looking for no other reward, then you are under paid by any economic measure.

That is in no way to place one agneda on top of another, as both are needed and respected! I would like to extend a thank you to every coach that took time out of their day to teach my kid something... underpaid, never-paid, over-paid... thanks!

Floyd County pays $3500 for HC and $1500 for AC.

I know until last year, asst. coaches who don't teach get $700 a year at Lynn Camp. Now I think they get $1000. This is very SAD... The baseball HC does not teach and gets $2000 still very SAD...

How do you know this? Where are you getting your information. Is that for the HC or all the coaches together.

It would be open to public records request if it was inquired about or should be IMO. School systems will say how they do this and that, but really they are only basically the head coach and make 100 gs a year. I have heard that Matney at Johnson Central makes close to 100 gs without stepping foot inside a classroom and Hillard Howard makes 80-90 gs only coaching football.

I have heard this aswell....

I would be interested in seeing what the coaches at St. X and Trinity make, and what their duties are.

We also need to be aware "other duties" could mean many other things than teaching in a classroom. In a Herald Leader article a few years ago, it was reported that Coach Columbia at Clark County was the highest paid coach, however, it included his salary as an assistant principal. So coaches "other duties" can be things that are very important and would pay well even if they weren't coaching.

I would curious to know this as well. I'll see if I can find out.
