February 21, 200818 yr The Cleveland Cavaliers appear to have beaten the NBA's annual trade buzzer to get LeBron James some of the fresh help he's been openly craving. In a three-way, 11-player trade with Chicago and Seattle that has been submitted for league approval, NBA front-office sources say that Cleveland will come away with four new teammates for James, headlined by Ben Wallace from the Bulls and sharpshooter Wally Szczerbiak from the Sonics. The league office was notified of the deal before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET trading deadline, sources said, and is currently reviewing the trade details as required for formal approval. After Cleveland watched two longstanding trade targets land elsewhere -- Mike Bibby in Atlanta and Jason Kidd in Dallas -- sources say that the deal calls for the Cavaliers to receive Wallace, Szczerbiak, Seattle point guard Delonte West, Chicago's Joe Smith and a future second-round pick from the Bulls. http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3257159
February 21, 200818 yr This should help the Cavs be right up there with the Pistons and Celtics. This NBA season is really becoming interesting.
February 21, 200818 yr Wow... This really changes the Cavs... They gave up 6 players in this deal. I like what they got back. Could take a while to get chemistry with them all however. The Cavs are going to be big with the ability to play Big Ben at the 4 and Big Z at the 5...
February 21, 200818 yr They give away Larry Hughes, Ira Newble, Donyell Marshall, Drew Gooden, Shannon Brown, and Cedric Simmons. I think they are giving up A LOT in this trade.
February 21, 200818 yr Here is my question. Will Big Ben start alongside Big Z and play the 4? I dont think Ben has ever played the 4 in the league. Szczerbiak is the shooter they have been looking for, and Delonte West is a solid point who can run the show and score. He is big enough and quick enough to guard most PG's, especially in the East. Joe Smith has awakened this year and should provide solid depth in the post to go along with Anderson Varejao when he returns from injury. Gooden, Hughes, Newble, and Marshall were solid players, but should be worth it with what they got out of the trade. Bulls get rid of Wallace contract and get a solid big in Gooden, but they add the inconsistent Hughes to a crowded backcourt. Sonics clear up some cap space, which is the main objective for them.

They give up a lot, but if you think about it, the Cavs got 4 guys that have started a lot on their ex-teams. They give up starters Gooden and Hughes, but Varejao got more minutes at the 4 than Gooden while he was healthy, and Hughes was somewhat inconsistent. They pick up a solid PG that they were looking for, the shooter they were looking for, and a former All-Star and a former top 5 pick in the post.

Watch out for Szczerbiak to explode now with the Cavs! This does look like a good trade for the Cavs. Wallace brings more toughness to the table and Szerbiach is a gifted scorer.
February 21, 200818 yr So, instead of Kidd or Bibby you get Delonte West. Then you replace Gooden and Hughes with Wallace and Szczerbiak..... I don't see it helping the Cavs that much. Was this a trade just to be doing something for the Cavs?
February 21, 200818 yr Delonte West is better than what they had. Hughes has been a disappointment since they signed him. Gooden was a solid role player but was worth it for what they got in return. They rest of the guys were just there to fill the roster...
February 21, 200818 yr This team is going to have to become a half court team and slow the game down significantly. Does that bode well of LeBron? Gibson and Wally are going to both have to step it up. I don't like this trade for the Cavs at all.
February 21, 200818 yr Hughes and Gooden are the only players that really contribute... Newble wasn't a presence for perimiter defense and physical play? How will Wally fill that roll? This feels like a lateral move to me. A move to make a move but I guess we will see. I'm not sold on Big Z and Big Ben being a viable combo. Seems like a bit of an odd mix. Having said all that, if this makes Lebron happy then its worth it. The Cavs' success ultimately lies in his hands anyway.
February 21, 200818 yr I say the Cavs are number two in the East behind Boston right now, with this trade.
February 21, 200818 yr I say the Cavs are number two in the East behind Boston right now, with this trade. Gibson/West or Billups---Edge DET Lebron- Prince----Edge CLE Wally or Hamilton----Edge DET Wallace or McDyess--- Tie Big Z or Wallace---- Edge DET I guess the Cavs have the edge on the bench but the Pistons have always been a team oriented towards their starters. I will still take the Pistons, especially since the core has been together so long.
