February 22, 200818 yr In breaking news, it looks the prosecutors are going to screw up the case and Bonds is going to be let off the hook: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3257761
February 22, 200818 yr He will be in a Yankee uniform by the end of spring. No chance. Where would he play?
February 22, 200818 yr No chance. Where would he play? DH. With that short right field fence, he will hit 40 homers next year for them.
February 22, 200818 yr DH. With that short right field fence, he will hit 40 homers next year for them. No chance. They've got Abreu, Damon, Matsui and Cabrera in the outfield that they have to get at bats for--Damon's arm is shot and Matsui has lost a step so they'll DH a lot. They also aren't going to eat Giambi's $23 Million salary and they sure aren't going to play him at first base everyday--he'll have to DH a bunch. Also consider that they like to get Posada's bat in the lineup as much as possible when he's not catching and Wilson Betemit who hit 12 homeruns in 240 at bats and there is nowhere to put Bonds. Cashman is on thin enough ice as it is. The only way Bonds plays for the Yankees is if they experience a rash of injuries--he's got nowhere to play. How do you think they'd fit him into that lineup? I'd love to hear it.
February 22, 200818 yr Bonds may end up somewhere in the West. More than likely, the Mariners. But, the longer he sits and waits on a contract, the worse his play may be.
February 22, 200818 yr If I were the New York Yankees I would get this guy. Put him at DH. Did you read my previous posts? What would you do eat either Matsui's, Damon's or Giambi's contracts as well as pay Bonds $10 Million+? There are no at bats for him at DH for the Yankees. If they play those 3 guys in the field every day so they can DH Bonds they'll have to score 10 runs a game to win.
February 22, 200818 yr It'd be a better bet to say Griffey would be a Yankee before Bonds as this is his last year on contract with the Reds. He can atleast still play the field and you could Dh him from time to time. As far as Bonds playing, I think it will be a similar result that we saw with Clemens last year. Will sit most of the year an then toward the end of the year sign a contract to play the rest of the season to give a surprise contender a little more depth and a power hitter in their 5 or 6 hole.
February 22, 200818 yr He will be in a Yankee uniform by the end of spring. It wouldn't surprise me at all.
