February 19, 200818 yr There are numerous verses in the Koran that command muslims to kill unbelievers if they won't convert to Islam. There are no verses of that nature in the New Testament. Now, here's what that statement means and does not mean... It doesn't mean that Christians or people under the guise of Christianity haven't done some bad things. They have. But, they have to twist and distort the meaning of the Bible. Muslims do not...they merely have to interpret those verses literally, and they have a mandate from God to convert or kill. That's the difference as I see it...
February 19, 200818 yr Here's a pretty good sight to discuss the nature of Islam and the relationship with other world religions: http://www.faithandvalues.com/channels/islam_violent.asp Here's an interesting question. Do any of these passages reveal Islam as a violent religion? 1. Anyone who blasphemes the name of God must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death. 2. Each of you must put to death those of your men who have joined in worshiping the Baal of Peor. 3. But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded him to say, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, must be put to death." 4. He made them lie down on the ground and measured them off with a length of cord. Every two lengths of them were put to death, and the third length was allowed to live. 5. Anyone who curses his father or mother must be put to death. What would you answer?

February 19, 200818 yr Only I get to make the old age jokes about myself. You guys are supposed to just sit there and snicker quietly to yourselves. ....BTW, it was XVI. At least it wasn't XIIX%.
February 19, 200818 yr At least it wasn't XIIX%. XVIII%? There was no XIIX before there was a big III.

February 19, 200818 yr Tahnks for the explanation pretty insightful, but what about the Kurds(spelling)? Kurds are another group that originated in and around Kurdistan. These groups are now in other countries like Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, etc. They are a monotheistic society and were influenced by Jews, Christians, Islam and others. there specific religious ideals, I am not certain but they are a seperate group than Shi'ah, Sunni and other branches of Islam.
February 19, 200818 yr All of these are from the Bible. More specifically, they're from the Old Testament...show me a commandment to kill an unbeliever (or anyone for that matter) in the New Testament, and you'll get my attention. Christians are to follow Christ and the example he set...His teachings and His example are in the New Testament...to try to equate commandments of Jewish and Mosaic law from the Old Testament to followers of Christ doesn't work and is not an accurate representation of Christian beliefs or doctrine. And, just to clarify ME, the post wasn't addressed to you specifically...just quoted it for a reference point. :thumb:
February 19, 200818 yr Author I did a quick google search and found this website http://www.islam101.com/index.htm it's a website that, from what I gather, is trying essentially to do what I'm trying to do with this thread. Get people thinking and get rid of some of the preconceived notions that people carry. These are some of the quotes that i found interesting. The Holy Quran: "Do not let your hatred of a people incite you to aggression." (5:2). "And do not let ill-will towards any folk incite you so that you swerve from dealing justly. Be just; that is nearest to heedfulness" (5:8). This is actually a message from Mohammed himself. "This is a message written by Muhammad ibn Abdullah, as a covenant to those who adopt Christianity, far and near, we are behind them. Verily, I defend them by myself, the servants, the helpers, and my followers, because Christians are my citizens; and by Allah! I hold out against anything that displeases them. No compulsion is to be on them. Neither are their judges to be changed from their jobs, nor their monks from their monasteries. No one is to destroy a house of their religion, to damage it, or to carry anything from it to the Muslims' houses. Should anyone take any of these, he would spoil God's covenant and disobey His Prophet. Verily, they (Christians) are my allies and have my secure charter against all that they hate. No one is to force them to travel or to oblige them to fight. The Muslims are to fight for them. If a female Christian is married to a Muslim, this is not to take place without her own wish. She is not to be prevented from going to her church to pray. Their churches are to be respected. They are neither to be prevented from repairing them nor the sacredness of their covenants. No one of the nation is to disobey this covenant till the Day of Judgment and the end of the world." That just doesn't seem like a violent religion to me. From what I've learned so far. I consider myself a Christian, but I try not to let my beliefs blind me and prevent me from learning about other people and their ways. I guaruntee you that if you were to look at Christians from afar the only picture you would get would be of the bigoted extremists that are the loudest of them all. People need to start opening up, and let go of some of their biases. We might learn something new, theres never anything wrong with that.
