I don't think that gambling is a sin....

If it passes I just hope the owners have the right trainning. Workers who have the eye to watch folks who may get carried away. Help lines for calls. I've seen the movies where there are hidden cameras. I don't know what I'm really saying, but I know people who spend money traveling to other states and spending money that stays in that state.

 

God gave us a mind to know when to hold them and when to walk away.

 

The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. The Bible is actually silent on Gambling. But there are things man can do in extreme, and should be careful.

If you ever go to a casino you will see telephone numbers and other things for people to look at and read if they need help and have a gambling problem. If someone asked the casino for help with their gambling problem they would help them, not tell them to quit crying and lay down another bet.

 

Casino's aren't evil or the devil like some want to think.

The sin in gambling, like drunkeness and over eating, or over-indulging in anything, is the lack of will power. It's not a sin to drink, it's a sin to get drunk. It's not a sin to gamble, it's a sin to not excercies the judgement to control your losses.

 

I know Caesar's will allow someone to "ban" themselves. Meaning, they flag the person's player card, etc, and that person will be escorted off the boat if they come back to gamble.

 

Casino's are not trying to create addicts or destroy families. They are trying to make money by offering an entertainment venue. They have concerts, special events and restaurants too. Again...more job opportunities. You don't just walk into a casino and get served alcohol with no limits, or get chained to a stool in front of a slot machine.

I think anyone that thinks gambling won't lead to social ills has their head buried in the sand.

Actually, it's very much the other way around.

RockMom nice post. (Can't believe we see eye to eye on this) maybe because its a true statement. I have bought a lottery ticket before, and will again. When someone has asked me to justify it, I quoted what RM said.

These casinos are meant for people that gamble for entertainment, IMO. And if your doing it for entertainment purposes only, your not going to lose everything. I would be willing to bet that the majority of people at the boat are there for "entertainment" not to become a sudden millionaire.
