The votes aren't there in the Senate they would need if I remember correctly something like 10 republicans to jump ship to get this passed in the state Senate, I just don't see this happening.

So, with Ohio and TN looking to add casino gambling, KY will not approach the income the governor is saying we will, correct?

 

IMO, it probably will until those two come online. After that, no.

I am of the opinion that revenue generating is not the issue. Spending is the issue. Till government controls their spending, I am not sure we need to give them a blank checkbook to raise revenues however they see fit.

 

Admittingly, I would need to read more about the spending habits at the state level and are they out of control like at the national level.

Darned if you do & darned if you don't. Just look at the fuss that have been caused when Beshear has started to control spending & cut back. People dont want education to be cut or gov't jobs but those are the main parts of our budget. I do think Beshear is taking a political "gamble" in cutting programs and spending. Many say we want to control gov't spending but "WE" as individuals don't want anything cut (our childs education, our insurance, our pension, our retirement, our this , our that).

 

Beshear hasn't gotten much support from republicans or dems for that matter when he has tried to control spending. Most think its a front for this casino issue and it may but if you dont want anything cut, then we better make more money.

So is the answer taking away what would amount to 2500 bucks over four years to a decent Kentucky student in KEES money for college while raising tuition at a school like UK by as much as 20% to support the governors budget cuts. Until Beshear came in I don't remember anyone on either side of the aisle talking about the dire shape of our government.

The support comes from the citizenry supporting it. If they don't, than the politicians won't cause they aren't going to get reelected.

The Senate President will play a huge factor in it ever getting on a ballot..........it will be a very hard sale as he has stated that only three members are presently in favor of it.

So, our economy in Kentucky is doing well & this budget crisis is a complete fabrication of Beshear?? I do think KEES is a good idea but how effective is it? Since its implication how many more Kentucky students are going to college? How many more are graduating? I do not know these answers but before I can praise these programs, I must look at how effective they are. I'm just playing devil's advocate about KEES.

Do you honestly think Fletcher would be so forthcoming as to tell the populace, right when he's asking for their vote for four more years, that the state's economy had gone into the crapper during his watch?

But how much of this stuff is kept from the public? While there are exceptions, Beshear didn't walk into the Governor's office and find a file folder of secret debts that the press or public weren't privy too.

As Kentucky moves toward possibly opening 12 casinos - including a pair in Northern Kentucky - efforts to bring casinos to Ohio escalated Monday.

 

- Cincinnati City Councilman Jeff Berding announced that he wants the Ohio General Assembly to put a constitutional amendment on the November ballot to allow full casino gambling at any Ohio county that borders a state with gambling.

Your Right....but then we have to argue about where said "thriftiness" comes from....I wasn't a huge Beshear fan, but did vote for him, and so far, he is getting an A+ IMO.
