I live in a Duplex in Lexington off campus, and my water bill for me and three other guys is ~$100 each month. Can anyone that lives around here tell me if that is what the going rate is. Back in NKY my parents pay $100 every three months. Are we getting shafted or not? Thanks ya'll.

Is that water and sanitation, or just water?

I don't live in the Lexington area, but here are a few suggestions.

1) Call the utility. In that area it should be Ky. American Water. Ask them to give you a usage history on the residence. The history will enable you to track any increases in usage. Several utilities are going to monthly billing, so that's not an issue.

2) Make sure no one in the residence is using water and locate your meter. There should be a small triangle on the meter head. It's usually red. If it's moving, that indicates a leak past the meter. Any water moving through the meter is registered (billed). If you cannot locate the meter, call the utility back and ask them if they can have someone stop by and check for leaks (leak audit). This service should be free. Also, check around the house and see if you notice any toilets or faucets leaking. The amount seem small, but they add up on a water bill. Good Luck:thumb:

I was going to suggest is it water, or also sanitation. It also depends on how many people are in your house. (I have 5 people in my house in NKY and it runs $160-175 for water alone every three months). Is your landlord charging you a flat rate?

If you don't have any dripping , leaks, I am just wondering how many showers are being taken per day , and how long is the water on per shower ? A good clue on over useage is how often do you run out of hot water ? Four people can use more than you may think. Are you all doing laundry there ? It adds up !!

4 showers per day, toilet flushes, ice, water, clothes....adds up.

Should definitely not be $100 a month in Lexington for 4 guys. Maybe girls or pretty boys, but that sounds pretty high. I lived in Lexington from 2002 to early 2007 and just now moved back and I dont think I have ever had a water bill that high. I now live with 3 other guys and used to live with 2 other guys. I'd get it checked out.

Tried calling and they weren't very cooperative. I didn't ask about a leak audit though. Didn't know that existed, but I'll be sure to call back and ask about it.

My bill is for water and "wastewater/sewage usage" which I'm assuming is sanitation. Does approximately $100 every month make sense for both? I didn't know they were separate in some places...

I lived in a Lexington apartment with my wife from 2005-2006. It averaged around $15-$20 per month for both water and wastewater. We averaged around 2,000 gallons per month using showers, laundry, cooking, toilet, etc. Neither of us take too long of shower.

Hope this helps.

Hmmm, just checked mine and we use 15000 gallons. I think we might be getting billed right.
