Hmmm, just checked mine and we use 15000 gallons. I think we might be getting billed right.
6 to 8000 would be a reasonable amount to use. You have a problemo , sombody or several somebodys is/are using way too much or YOU HAVE A leak ! Let us know when you figure it out !

You have a leak man. We were horrible about conserving water and we never approached anything like that.

I just looked at some of my bills over the past few years, and it sounds like there may be something wrong with yours. Our usage ranges anywhere between 18 HCF and 41 HCF depending on the time of year. In the summer, it's the highest due to watering the lawn, filling up the little one's pool all the time, washing cars, etc. A single HCF equates to 748 gallons of water, so we are using anywhere from 13,464 to 30,668 gallons of water in a 3 month period for 3 people. In the summer, our water plus sanitation bill can reach close to $300, which is equivalent to your $100/month, but that's the extreme on our end during the summer.

If that is water only, something is wrong. You have a bad toilet valve that is causing the toilet to run over and over, you have a dripping faucet, you have a water leak, the washing machine is not running properly and is causing too much water to run, etc. I filled up an inground pool and it took 3 days of nonstop water out of the water hose and my bill was only $400 - just to give you an idea.

It includes sanitation according to his second post. That still seems high for this time of year.

The bill should break it down into what you're getting charged for each utility. I would suspect that his water/sewage section is the problem (unless you have natural gas on the bill).

You might have some type of leak or it could be that you have water that is constantly running. I had a toilet one time that ran all the time and I did not realize it and it more than doubled our water bill!

His bill more than likely has 2 sections. One section is the water, and the other is the sewage/sanitation. Combined these total $100. In NKY, the bills come separate, and the costs are nearly the same. Also, I've never heard of natural gas being on a water bill. That usually comes separate or with your electric depending on location.

Where I used to live in Rowan county, it was all on one bill - water, sewage, sanitation, and gas.

I agree with the leak...it sounds like a broken pipe or something.

Sewage and sanitation are essentially the same thing though, aren't they?

Well, in Rowan, it was sewage (water waster) and sanitation (garbage pickup). With all of that together, it still wasn't usually $100.

I agree, unless you all have girlfriends staying over and showering all the time, you've got a leak.

May want to check outside the home to see if there is a leak anywhere. A friend of mine last year had a leak out by the street under the sidewalk. What a mess and it was expensive to repair. I don't think it is just a leaking toilet my friend. JD
