In passing on the Districts, Beechwood does not get Holmes on a neutral site. They get Holmes at Holmes. Beechwood played Cov. Cath very solid in Park Hills. They have a victory against Holy Cross. Playing the Dawgs at home....stranger things have happened. (19-0 Super Bowl Champion New England Patriots)

 

Holmes beat Beechwood by 34 points the first time (63-29). I doubt very seriouly it matters where they play them.

 

Now if I'm CCH or Holy Cross, I'm not too happy with this situation.

CCH's position...they get Holy Cross at Holmes (which is almost a home game for Holy Cross. Holmes to Holy Cross...about 8 blocks). If Cov. Cath. is fortunate enough to beat the Indians, they will likely play Holmes at Holmes.

If Beechwood decided against hosting, wouldn't CovCath be next in line? Doesn't C come before H in the alphabet? I don't know the details, and am not questioning your facts, but it looks like the next school on the list would have been asked first.

 

Still can't believe Beechwood not only gave up the districts, but elected not to "host". Should have gone and gotten TMC, NKU, or even President's Park before turning over the district to their first round opponent.

Sandman I am pretty sure CovCath hosted last year, and Cov Holy Cross the year before that, so it was Holmes turn. Really doesn't make sense to me, that Beechwood gave up the right to not even host.

 

Think about this! Do you honestly think Beechwood would ever tell the KHSAA that they wouldn't host a football playoff game?

 

To answer the latter part of your post first, no I don't think Beechwood would give up a home football playoff game to move it to a bigger venue, which Holmes also has. What does this say about Beechwood basketball?

 

As for the former part of your post, again remember I wasn't questioning the facts of it going to Holmes. It just seemed like a very odd choice by the "host" school to me.

The change in sites caught my eye as well. I am friends with parents close to the program and I have been told the size of Beechwood's gym is the issue. Because it was Beechwood's turn to host, they were able to hand pick which team gets it instead of them. Since Holmes is the largest gym, they chose Holmes knowing they would get the large gate in return.

 

I cannot say I agree with this move. To me it is about your team and every advantage you can get. It is not like Beechwood's gym is the smallest in the area. If I were the AD, I would have made the best of the situation and kept it at home. They owe it to the seniors who have played every other year on the road.

Weds Feb 27th: Holmes vs Beechwood 6:30pm

Holy Cross vs Cov Cath 8:30pm

 

Fri Feb 29th: Final 6:30

Folks, don't get your shorts in a bunch. Each school has a chance of hosting the districts. So each year the hosting school in theory has an advantage. Unfortunately Beechwood's gym is not up to par and wished to send it to Holmes. I don't understand the problem.

I think Beechwood also chose it to be at Holmes, hoping that if Holmes does beat them (very likely) they will have home court and beat CCH or HC so atleast there is a chance that a NKY team can win state. Also if i remember back in the 90's i dont think Beechwood and Cov Cath like eachother that much, atleast they didnt in football. So if i am Beechwood and want to pick someone to host the districts i pick Holmes for a few reasons.

1) Biggest gym

2) Holmes actually has a legit chance at winning state

3) You never give your rival (CCH) home court advantage

4) HC gym is just too small

I would think Beechwood's decision on whether to move forward with their committment to host the 35th District tournament (as had been registered with the KHSAA) would be driven by what is in the best interest of the kids on Beechwood's team. Romes, Buettel, Hall, et. al. are very solid players. Beechwood is 12-0 in the Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division III standings. Playing the game in the friendly confines of their home court with a packed house of the Ft. Mitchell faithful could only enhance their chances against the Bulldogs. Would playing at home make Beechwood the favorite against Holmes - of course not. But, since the tournament will be played on the court rather than on paper, you never know how things might have shaken out.

Either way, there will be graet games to watch.
