This year, the Greenup Co. administrtion decided to not allow pep bands to play at the district tournament. What harm does a pep band do to not allow them to play? I have thought about this since finding out about it Wednesday, and can only come up with positives. Pep bands make the atmosphere, increase attendance, and create an even better competition. Last year, Lewis Co. allowed all teams to bring their bands, so what has caused Greenup Co. to not allow it? Next time, they might just film the game and make everybody watch the game in the cafeteria. IMO, this is a bad decision by Greenup Co. I dont know all of the circumstances, so maybe someone who is closer to the school can fill me in. Thanks.

They a have an area PERFECT for bands. Its an end zone section were very few fans sit. Plus, if I'm not misstaken, the Greenhouse holds about 4500-5000.

Bands practice all year and get to compete very little. They probably consider districts and regionals their competition and Greenup Co. has taken that away from them.

What a sad situation. I don't know about you, but most of the best memories in my life have some sort of music as a reminder of that day. For inistance, even though I have been out of high school for many years, I still know all the words to our fight song and simply hearing it makes me jump to my feet and cheer for our team. Also, the band works hard all year to learn songs to play at ballgames and to have administration tell them their services are not needed is simply selfish. I hope the Greenup County administrators can come forward and voice the reasons for their decision so fans can better understand, or even better, reverse their decision and let the bands play on.

Space is not an issue. Lewis Co. allowed all bands to attend last year and did not turn one person away at the door. The Greenhouse is much larger than Lewis Co's gym. That arguement has no basis.

FRom all of the negative comments about Greenup, I think they forget it is about the kids, not the administrators. Thankfully my kids do not live close to that debacle.

It is about the kids, and the administration has taken some of the kids out of it. I think our band has 20-25 members and these kids arent getting to participate. Therefore, some of the kids are not being allowed to take place and have fun playing their insturments like they normally would.

When the district of Campbell, Brossart, Pendleton, Bracken and Silver Grove came about?

 

Brossart wanted each school to have to pay for the entire pep band at student admission if a school was bringing a pep band. They argued that it gave a free crowd and advantage to schools with a pep band and ate into their part of the district profit. That motion was defeated by a 3-2 vote. Three schools with a pep band voted it down.

LCRW we both know the administration won't give an answer on this question, they wouldn't have a comment to the question "Is the world round?"much less anything else

Basketball (and football as well) games without pep bands just don't seem the same. Even if you're away the home team's band is always fun to listen to.
