I COMPLETELY AGREE that the bands should be allowed to attend!! :ylsuper:

 

The excitement and entertainment they provide for all that attend (players, cheerleaders AND fans) is well worth the allotted space and a very small price to pay financially. BRING 'EM ON!!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

I will say this though . . . I have attended at least one school district (on more than one occassion) were the band (well really its probably their leader) should be reminded of the unspoken rules of behavior. Of course we were the visiting team but . . . every time our cheerleaders would take the floor, the home team band would start to play. Now I know this is just a competition thing but . . . as the kids would return to the sidelines the bandleader would lean over the rail to look down at those visiting cheerleaders and SMILE.

 

That type of behavior doesn't sound like the way an adult should behave toward a child who is just heightening the spirit of the fans and showcasing all their hard work.

Seriously, there are some very good people at GC and it is not fair to lump all in one category. JMO but the Administration imo is the blame for 99.9% of their problems.

This coming from an outsider to the GC system, just what I have learned through the years. This is nothing new and imo goes way beyond pep bands.

This seems to be a "clean sweep" vote......NO ONE can figure this out or give one legit reason for it. Only thing that I can think of or come up with is that some at the GC school system does not want to see people enjoying themselves, especially the kids :sssh:.

Far be it for a High School Tournament to be about the kids :scared:. that should never be the issue now should it ?

I agree with everyone on here, just completely ridiculous and sad that they would make that decision.

 

As BBI said, tonight at the Mason Co game, the band wasn't there and their presence was missed.

This is awful. The bands make the atmosphere better.

Would it have been possible for the coaches, AD's, and all others who attended the district draw to speak up and overturn Greenup Co.'s decision? And if so, is it too late? It seems everyone in attendence could have spoken up and outruled the idiotic decision.

Talked to someone at the Raceland Lewis girls game tonight. Big district game but no pep band. If they do not do home games they probably would not travel anyway.

Raceland's band travels from time to time, and plays at some home games. They don't play at all games. Raceland's band traveled to Fairview this past week, very nice atmosphere.

I am hearing that at the drawing, the vote went 2 and 2 for the bands. GCHS Admin. felt the gate $ would be higher if they charged for the kids to get in as opposed to giving free passes to the band kids. My questions are: how was the 2-2 vote broken? and how many band kids will actually go to the game if the pep bands aren't allowed to play? Overall, how much money will GCHS make by voting against pep bands? Enough to make or break the system? hmm......

I remember a case about 14-15 years ago where a band director didn't want to bring his pep band to the district games. Some of the marching band kids don't enjoy playing at games, but my experience indicates that most of the kids who play in pep bands love to play and love to play at the games. Space limitations should be the only valid reason to keep pep bands out of the district tournaments. The band students have their own competitions (marching bands and concert bands) but I dare say most of the kids who play in pep bands would enjoy playing at the district games. If the missed dollars at the gate are the reason GC administrators have made this decision - shame on them. Many of the band kids' parents would attend the game as paying customers. Plus the band members and their parents have been known to purchase food and drink at the concession stands.

The bands add so much atmosphere to the contests. I really hope the administraton will reconsider...

Pep bands?!? We don't need no stinkin' pep bands!!!
