gchs_uk9 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I know he was a decent president and all, but good grief, these Republican candidates invoke the name Ronald Reagan more than they say anything about any issue. I'm a Democrat but am willing to vote for the best candidate, no matter what side. But all this "Reagan-invoking" just completely turns me off of the Republicans.
Hearsay Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Republicans who lived during the Reagan years are excited about anything connected with him. They are just trying to align themselves with him in order to give the electorate something to cheer for. Don't think anything of it, its been done in every election, and noone is going to confuse any of these yahoos with Dutch.

If more politicians today would adhere to the principles set by Reagan, no matter what side of the aisle they are on, they may actually get something meaningful accomplished. He was a great man and I could never get tired of him.
ladiesbballcoach Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I am. It means nothing to me as a voter and I tune out when they begin talking about it. Remember I was 14 the first election and 18 the second. ON the second one, my parents told me I would vote Democrat because that is what we do in our family. We are Democrats and we ONLY vote for Democrats. If Joseph Stalin would have been the candidate, we would vote Democrat. If Adolf Hitler was the Democrat candidate, I think they would consider voting Democrat.
TSFan20 Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 As a conservative first...registered R next, I will never get tired of hearing Ronald Reagan. I just wish the candidates we are putting forward this year acted and thought more like him!
gchs_uk9 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 My problem isn't Ronald Reagan. My problem is they constantly invoke his name, but I really don't have a clue what THEY plan to do.
gchs_uk9 Posted January 31, 2008 Author Posted January 31, 2008 I am. It means nothing to me as a voter and I tune out when they begin talking about it. Agreed.
AcesFull Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I am also tired of hearing politicians who share few of Reagan's conservative principles and even less of his vision invoking his name. Ironically, Reagan would probably agree with Ron Paul on most issues and most of the candidates chanting the Reagan name treat Dr. Paul with no respect.
Sting Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 I love Ronald Regean, but unfortunately he is gone. I don't mean this disrespectfully, but they all need to drop the Reagan talk. It's getting a little old and none of them are even close to being anything like Reagan...
Uncle Jed Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It's hard to believe democrats would complain about this. I hear the name JFK thrown around a lot too. Ronald Regan is the kind of president we need today. He was able to get things done, by bring both sides together. I don't see any candidates being able to do that.

Just curious, are you tired of Clinton talking about what "she" accomplished during her husband's terms?
Hatz Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 It's much in the way that Dems invoke the JFK legacy and prior to that the FDR legacy. Reagan's terms were not without mistakes and controversy but there was something about his persona and communication of a vision that leaves the GOP a rallying image and figure.
Covercorner Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 Everyone needs to remember, that when Regan began to gather steam in 1980, he was invoking the names of FDR and JFK the way his name is invoked today.
HHSDad Posted January 31, 2008 Posted January 31, 2008 The only thing I get tired of hearing is these wannabe's claiming they are carrying on the Reagan tradition.
