School scoring record

Featured Replies

Im pretty sure Cecil Clair has the single game scoring record for Breathitt.

Elliott recently had a new personal scoring record established (Congrats Ferg) and that got me thinking about records at other schools.

Tell us who holds your school's record, what year (if you can remember!!:jump:) and what school they're from.

Ferguson doesn't hold the scoring record for Elliot Co., does he?

According to his Coach, yes. By some of the enormous posts in his 2000 pt thread no.

I was just wondering...because in another thread, it says that someone with over 5000 has the first spot, someone with over 4000 has the 2nd, and someone with over 3000 has the 3rd. So is he 4th then? How could his coach say he was first if he isn't? I'm confused..

I could get on the thread with the 5, 4, 3, thousand post and say Joe Salyer's had 5500

but that doesn't mean its true. You get my drift!

Talbert Turner Jr. Pendleton County 1984

3100+ points

BB Kind did hold Knott Centrals until late December with a little over 1700 points. But now Megan Mosley holds it with close to 1850 points.

Jamie Walz 1991-1996 Highlands 4948 career pts.

1995 season 1135 pts. in one season.

Scott Draud 1986 Highlands 1094 pts. in one season. (don't know how many in his career)

Eddie Hopkins played 1973-76 for a total of 1650.

Augusta's is Brian Kirk with a total of 2222.

I also made a mistake on Molly Linville totals as well. Looked it up she scored 1698 From 89-92

I don't really know about the scoring record here in Owsley you could ask Professor i am sure he knows

I don't have the figures right in front of me, but I do have them stored away. Here is the best I can do off the top of my head:

Owsley County's all time leading scorer is Paul Smith, class of '62. I don't have his scorebooks, but according to his coaches, teammates and teachers who were in the system at the time, the 5'11 guard scored 3,000+ points for his career. He went on to play for Babe McCarthy at Mississippi State (in the late '50s and early '60s the Bulldogs were the class of the SEC with several titles under their belt), and played against Rupp's Runts a few times. He had the SEC consecutive free throw record at 44 until the mid-'80s, when it was broken.

The second all time scorer is Mike Turner, class of '83, with over 2,400 points. His senior season the team was 29-5 with a runner up finish in the 14th region tournament. He played for Georgetown College. At only 6'2 the long armed Turner could dunk the ball anyway he wanted, and had 18 game dunks his senior season....not bad for his height.

The third all time scorer is Jeff "Moose" Moore, class of '90, who scored over 2,200 points. His '90 team won the first ever state-wide 14th regional tournament. The Owls were also runner-up in the state All A classic that year to University Heights. They defeated Lexington Catholic, Harlan, and Maysville, to get to the finals at UK's Memorial Coliseum. He was named tournament MVP, which doesn't happen much from a team that didn't win it all. But he was impressive. The 6'5, 230 center was a force, and still has several records in the All A state record book, such as the most points for the tournament---115. Moose played college ball in Florida and is now an airline pilot for United Airlines.
