Personally, I feel it falls back on the parents. You can teach a kid when he's younger to finish what you start, then when they get older they may make better decisions regarding this.

If 2 seniors don't want to finish their last year, then let them go quickly. The team will be better off.

 

If they feel they are justifiied in quitting high school BB in their senior season, then they have a long life ahead. Life it tough, high school BB isn't....it simply isn't.

Wow! That's hard to believe. I know this wasn't a playing time issues from the games I've been at. Ferguson was their best player easy in the games I've watched. That's really a blow to a struggling squad. I know it's been a tough season for them, but why not stick it out for the few games that are left in your senior season?

I am not a Devil fan, but it is a shame when these two fine kids find the best thing for them is to quit. I believe that has to fall back on the coaching staff. I happened to be at a game earlier when there was a banner that read " All I want for Christmas is a new coach" but to hear the Devil backers they have the best staff in the 16th

 

I agree with some of the other posts - in today's high school sports environment, people are all too quick to blame the coaches when players quit, especially when they don't have all the information.

Each situation is different and unique. I think it is unfair to make a blanket statement about parents or kids or coaches in any situation.

I have no idea who is to blame in this situation but I am sure each entity will have its reasons right or wrong.

It is a shame. Both are good kids. The reasons are theirs alone. I would have liked to seen them stick it out but that was not their choice.

 

I also like coach Dodd and think he really does know his basketball and how to teach the game.

I have this thing about younger players, I believe that the older players should get the playing time and the younger players get the sub minutes. If a senior played last year and a younger player takes his time this year it is not fair. The younger player has another year to play . The senior or juniors have given their time and should be respected for that. Now mind you the older players can and did play the sport well. They have paid their dues, so to speak.

Unless I'm wrong here, the ones who left got plenty of playing time, so I don't see how your post pertains to this one. At this point, I don't think Russell has any choice but to play younger kids. They are running out of options.

You are correct. Playing time was not the issue with these players.

This is the trouble too many people trying to understand each side of the story. Quitting should not be justified by anybody. I don't know the reason, don't care. I just know the result is wrong.

If the older player isn't as good playing as the younger, or his talent does'nt help the team as much as the younger the older should be the sub and the younger should be the starter. The idea of playing politics, or age factor is not good for any team. Sorry to disagree, but it is true.

When this happens and a younger player gets a lot more playing time I for one would quit the team. I think there are some that should and are going to quit.
