Seen some of Dodd's practices and it's easy to see, he is as fundamental as any coach in the region, however I will have to agree with DARE and say that overall the community is not happy with his tactics or style, this year or any other year!!!

 

When players are looking at the scorer's table after every mistake to see if they are coming out, you've got a problem.

I haven't seen this team play this year, but I heard they had more than 2 players either quit or not play. Seems to be a trend, as I know a couple of good athletes that didn't play in the past few years.

I think Mabery is back on the roster.

I take exception to these remarks. Let's examine what the Devils have done in the 5 1/2 years under Coach Dodd. This includes winning the region for the first time since 1972 and they were certainly the favorite to repeat last year, until Vanhoose went down with a knee injury.

I certainly hate to lose any players, especially Jacob and Mike because I've known them longer and they were a part of the winning teams. I wish them the best. I will still be there pulling for the younger Devils.

 

Russell basketball is in good hands. It will just take time to rebuild with the younger kids who will now be forced to gain even more experience.:fire:

Russell has ran great sports programs for years. Basketball is easier to run than football, so I think the admin of Russell can figure it out.

I don't think anybody should quit. But that is a personal choice. If they comeback it is up to the coach and depends upon the situation with each individual. The specifics are something that none of us know but alot of people want to jump to conclusions about.

FBALL you have to be the most insecure person I have never met, It was a legit question Duck knows the staff an anyone that was at the game knows there definetly was a strain then. My question basically was if they had made up.

I feel that it is odd that at least 3 teams in the 16th Region have had Starters quit their team this year. Can that many Coaches have issues? I have no answer because I dont know the situations, but seems odd.

We obviously can agree to disagree. I believe that the program has been going down hill since the hiring of Stamper which led to the hiring of Dodd. If not for the Rose Hill transfers Russell probably would have been decent, but not the success they had with those players. Don't get me wrong, Vanhoose, Blair, Robinson, were enrolled and were students.......But, the true people behind the scenes know the true tell of the tape. Big Sandy Rob, Dodd, and the Rose Hill gang shopped around until they could find a place to play for four years and it hurt the existing players. Look at the slew of players who left the program and who could have contributed......It is a shame. I can give you a list if you like, but I don't have enough room. Look at the coaches from the ground up that either have been run off or chose to go other directions. In my opinion and that is it.............I believe the program was at its peak with Sparks and how he ran the program. I am not solely looking at W's and L's, but being positive and building character in young adults. I don't believe and can't be convinced that beating kids down is a quality that is wanted in any program. Again, look at the people, both coaches and players that have left the program in the last 5 and 1/2 years Duck. It is a shame. I do respect your support of Dodd and I to wish the best to the two seniors that departed the team. What a shame. I hope it turns around.

I've seen Coach Dodd do that at JV games before and at Freshman games as well. I just don't think it is in his nature not to yell. Coach Parsley can get very emotional. They seem to be getting along fine. At least I haven't seen any fist fights yet.

When I was growing up, a long time ago, quitting anything was not an option. Times have changed, for the worse.

I agree. It is a shame that a parent would let their kisa quit as much as they do too. Not referring to this situation because I dont know what happened, but parents are not old fashioned anymore either. It is more like "WE will show them" attitude.

Personally, I feel it falls back on the parents. You can teach a kid when he's younger to finish what you start, then when they get older they may make better decisions regarding this.

I believe that this is the community divide issue that FBall is talking about. The winning the past 2 years has put issues on the back burner, the 2-14 season is setting off the smoke alarm. Dodd can coach no doubt. He was 37 games over .500 going into this season, he knows basketball. Even Ivan has had bad or mediocre seasons. It happens to everyone, it just seems like Dodd must get(staff) or become a better people person or a recruiter to get some athletes out on the court!
