Lexington Christian fined over financial aid to athletes

Featured Replies

I agree that the penalties should have been more harsh than they were, but since they were put on probation for 1 year, doesn't that mean "no" post season play next year ??

NO, it means nothing more than if you mess up next year we will put you on double top secret probation.:thumb:

I don't care if it is 7, 16 or 1 athlete. It is wrong, it is cheating and it is what we have talked about from the beginnig with private schools. Give us the oppurtunity to bring just 1 athlete in like this. Never happen in the public school system. The process in itself creates an uneven playing field. Finanical assistance, no zoning, ect.....

When was the last time a public school was found giving scholarships to athletes or anyone for that matter?

Agreed you won't find public schools found giving scholarships to athletes, because it's free, no wait not free, I pay taxes to support the school system, oh and that's right my kids don't benefit "directly" from that. I know the arguement we as a "community" benefit by paying taxes to educate children. In all honesty I have no trouble paying taxes to help other children attend school, and yes I make the choice to pay for my childrens education. I just feel the arguement of public kids not getting money is a moot point. The fact that kids may have gotten money, and ALSO played sports is the issue at hand, and yes penalties should be assessed. By the way do you realize it cost parents and additional $450-$600 in feels just to participate in athletes, and that number is low when you don't factor in summer basketball and AAU High School summer basketball.

But you are RIGHT, even one getting support that other kids are not entitled is WRONG.

It's not free when I want to go outside my zone. This is what folks seem to forget. Private has no zone and getting aid. I can't get it and if I can't afford it, I will be locked to a school.

If your school district was willing to release the funds meant to go directly to your education it would be.

That don't put money in my pocket, like it would for private school. As the saying goes "and If and Buts were candy......."

Financial aid goes directly into your pocket? Well I wish my parents knew that at Trinity. :irked:

No. Probation in HS is not the same as probation in College. Probation doesn't automatically mean a loss of post-season play. If they committ violations while on probation, then they are in real trouble.

Well said oldrambler, and with that, this Raceland fan is going to try to stay out of it from hence forth. I have said all I think I can, and made my points.

Thanks Ram and by the way imo you made them well :thumb:. The ones involved with LCA and these alegations/violations know what was done and what wasn't. If they have done wrong and a blatant violation/ recruiting issue then I think that they should be punished as such and not just probation, any titles won forfieted along with it.

Again, I don't know and am not pointing fingers. That is not my call and the ones involved know what was done and what wasn't. I am done with it. As I said before, lets just line it up and play the dang game. :thumb:

Well tell what is true? We read the newspaper, what do you read and where do you get the "REAL" story? All you are doing is spreading grapevine information.

Im not declaring LCA's innocence.. all im saying is that the paper misquoted what actually happened. LCA was fined 3000 dollars total. the first 2000 was because of an event that occured over 5 years ago. An LCA soccer player's father was layed off from his job and could no longer afford to send his son to LCA. to prevent this kid from having to switch schools several parents got together and gathered 800 dollars total, on 2 seperate occasions, to allow this kid to remain at LCA. This is a violation of KHSAA rules because tuition assistance from anyone outside an athletes immediate family is not allowed. while this was a violation of rules it is no form of recruiting. The next 1000 dollar fine was because of several Baptist churches that chose to assist minority students with scholarships to private schools to promote diversity in Christian and Catholic schools. So because of this ruling these students will no longer be able to receive this aid, simply because they are athletes. however any student that is not an athlete would still be eligible to receive this aid. this, in my opinion, doesnt make much sense. All allegations of recruitment were completely dismissed. So other than speculation, which to my knowledge is all untrue, LCA is innocent of any recruiting. It has all been misinterpreted in the media. I am not saying that these acts dont deserve punishment. rules are rules. but the punishment IMO was severe enough.

Simply seconding, as this is my understanding too, having read the ruling, and not relying up the newspaper article.
