Very common strategy to foul so a 3 can't beat you, especially at home. Hindsights 20/20, but if HHS would have fouled they may still be playing.

 

Even if you are up 3 there are still a number of things that can go wrong. 1) if in the bonus a make on the 1st and a miss on the 2nd and a stickback, usually not likely, but ask Derek Smith and Eric Glazer about that one. 2) a possible foul on a 3pt shooter makes and goes in and shoots one for the win. 3) hits the 2 ft's and on the inbound, a steal, turnover or a 5 second count.

 

While all of these seem unlikely, in games such as these, when you have a 3pt difference those things have happened more than once. Sooooo, up 3 I will take a chance on good D and the worst that can happen is OT.

Let me tell you what you do when your up two with 10 seconds to go in the game and the other team has the ball!!!!

 

YOU PLAY DEFENSE!!! You hope they take a 20 foot shot....They have about a 30% chance to make a three in a regular situation much less when the game is on the line!

 

Second guessing coaches is human nature and I don't have a problem with it, but I laugh out loud when I read some of the posters on this site because they don't have a clue!!!

 

Foul at midcourt when you're UP 2???

If HC was in the bonus down by 2 at the end, no way you foul. You give your kids a chance to win the game, not the other team's kids...

 

Really doesn't make sense to foul up 2...3 is a different story.

Nice game Birds. Tough loss at the end but all in all great week of basketball though. I will be curious if Willie moves Kowolonek to the point with the absence of Simpson. My guess is he will. Any thoughts.

Difference is, you're using hindsight. I've talked to multiple current and former high school coaches and everyone has laughed at the notion of fouling while up 2. Mixed feelings on when up 3 but laughed at when up 2.

Is there an official word on Nic's hand. How long will he have to sit out, how restricted will he be. I heard he wasn't even supposed to be playing. We were sitting right where he was being looked at and it didn't look very good.

Spoke with Nic's mom tonight and Nic is being operated on Tuesday at 1 o'clock . He broke the bone between his middle finger and wrist. They are putting a "pin" in it for proper healing. Should be out of cast in 4 weeks and a couple weeks of rehab. I don't know where the season is in 6 weeks?? Nic is very "DOWN" as you would expect, he and his team were of to a terrific start.
