I just watched a rerun of the ESPN show "Beyond the Glory" on the '91-'92 UK team dubbed The Unforgetables. It literally brought tears to my eyes as I watched. It one of those moments in time that you remember exactly where you were at when it occurred. As I watched, I thought about the current state of the present day UK fan. Not the UK program but the UK fan. I remember back then that the fans were completely different than the fans now-a-days. After the Duke loss of that season, the UK team returned to an incredible welcome. People lined the streets in support of that team. They filled Rupp to capacity for the banquet that year......FOR THE BANQUET!!! I just wish that we as a whole fanbase of UK can get back to the days where we just supported UK basketball. We didn't point fingers, we didn't ask for firings, we didn't bash players and we just supported our team. We just filled Rupp to capacity and cheered and cheered somemore for our Cats. Let's quit being UK critics and start being UK fans again.

I tell you what that great run we had from 96 to 98 might have been one of the best things, and one of the worst things to ever happen to UK...

How can it be one of the worst things? That's the type of run that every single NCAA team strives to have. I think you're saying that it spoiled some of the fanbase. I blame that on the fanbase being radical and unrealistic. We need to get back to those days as a fanbase first. That's where it starts! These top notch recruits who hear these crazy UK fans on radio and internet will be turned off from UK if it continues in the future. It's hard to tell how many recruits we've lost because of our radical fans. What recruit would want to come to a school where the fans think you have to be perfect, where they turn on you sooo quickly, where they demand firings. I know I wouldn't. I think the state of UK's fans at the start of that run had an effect on the recruits who committed to UK during that run. We were knows as being the best fans in college basketball. Analyst always talked about the incredible fans of UK. Now they speak of the radical demanding fans of UK. Dick Vitale, who I had never heard say a negative thing about UK fans, now bashes us for our unrealistic demands of the program. We are now know as radical unrealistic demanding fanatics instead of the UK vocal supporting fanatics that we used to be. We need to get back to being the supportive fanbase and maybe we might get that reputation back because I think the majority of us are still that same fan we were 15 yrs ago.

This team looks like its destined to be tabbed The Forgetables and have their banners hung not so high above the urinals in the bathrooms.:D

That's the type of comment that I'm talking about. There have been better teams at UK, that's for sure, but since they wear the UK jersey across their chest I am a fan of this team. Period!! Bashing this team or making comments like this is not going to change the situation and nothing good is going to come from it. Maybe I'm being naive to think that we as a fanbase can change and restore our reputation, maybe that is naive. I do thinks it's possible if remind these UK critics of the power we hold as a UK fanbase. We can choose to use that power in a positive and pro-active way like we used to or we can continue to criticize and demand things like we've done for the past few years. I choose to be a UK fan instead of a UK critic.

I think it is a Fox Sports Show and not a ESPN show, but I have to ask this question?

Where the heck was Deron Feldhaus in this whole thing? There was a ton of stuff with Pelphrey, Farmer, and Woods, but I dont think Feldhaus said anything at all.

I would argue that you are a bigger or better UK fan than I but, I realize this team is not very good, they dont IMO play hard, play defense, rebound, play smart(turnovers), they play selfish(some) not all. Its things like these that make this team hard to watch. I also realize its not going to be this way very long. Dont forget why those banners of The Unforgetables is hanging in the rafters its not because of talent or won-lose record but how hard they played and competed each night against better talent. I dont cry, sling snot, or lose sleep when this team loses I shake my head, laugh and look forward to a better day (2 yrs hopefully).

As a fan I believe I am at least giving the same effort as were getting.

Dont go out and look for any bridges to jump off of things will be better soon.:D

Ok buddy, I know you are a UK fan and all but you are forgetting something. As fans of any sport and team we have the right to criticize our beloved team. It's part of the game. Every team is criticized over something. Just look at it this way, if UK wasn't criticized it would mean no one cared, which everyone still cares because UK is UK and the fans don't want to see them continue this downward spiral! :thumb:

I remember when Pitino was coach, it seemed like every time the 'Cats would return home, people would be waiting outside the airport to greet them. I haven't seen that happen in a long time.

1. The team had some Ky kids who understood the passion of UK basketball.

2. Pitino's teams were just fun to watch. Up tempo, lots of points, i.e. "Kentucky basketball". How could you not get excited about some of the 95-90 Ky/Arkansas battles?

I don't recall falling asleep during many of the games during that era like I seem to do now!
