Auxier RiverRat Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 This is not the usual thread on here bashing a weak schedule by Duke. My question is why not schedule a game from Dec. 20th until Jan. 6th.? I guess Ive never really paid attention to this. Do any other teams take a layoff like this in the middle of the season?
gametime Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 I know most coaches like to have as much practice time as possible over the break because there is no restrictions on time in the gym, but it's rare to see a team take the entire time without any games scheduled...
sweet16 Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 that is too long of a break. I don't know if I have ever seen one that long.
buzzer beater Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 That's a long time to go without playing any games...
HOMELESS CAMEL Posted January 6, 2008 Posted January 6, 2008 Virginia has done that, they had a 10 day stretch in December because of finals. They were off for a while because of the Christmas holiday and they are in another 10 day layoff before ACC play starts. So while I can't say it's that common, it doesn't surprise me to see it. Because of school, holidays or whatever.
futboller Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I gues they did this because they had one of the most packed schedules at the beginning of the season.
THESportsANIMAL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Yea one of the most packed together schedules, but they haven't played any body but the three Top 25 teams. November 9 North Carolina Central W 121-56 November 12 New Mexico State W 86-61 November 19 Princeton W 83-61 November 20 at Illinois W 79-66 November 21 No. 13 Marquette W 77-73 November 25 Eastern Kentucky W 78-43 November 27 No. 20 Wisconsin W 82-58 December 1 at Davidson W 79-73 December 8 Michigan W 95-67 December 17 Albany W 111-70 December 20 No. 9 Pittsburgh L 65-64 Heres Dukes Schedule Up to The 20th. Duke Played three "Top 25" Teams Marquette,Wisconsin, and Pitt. Which they won 2 out of 3 and the loss was to Pitt (Good Team). Besides that everyone they have played they beat by 10+. So far basically it has been easy for Duke!

THESportsANIMAL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 That means 1/4th of their games was against top 25 teams. Still only three games! UK has Five more Top 25 games. Duke only has Three UK- Vandy, Vandy, Tenn, Tenn, and Ole Miss. Duke- UNC, UNC, and Clemson

Duke- UNC, UNC, and Clemson That is, as of this week's poll...there may be more....but let's compare the records of both.....if they flip flopped, I would venture to guess that Duke would still have the superior record, which leads me to ask, what exactly was your point?

However looking at that schedule I think they played a tougher schedule than we have. And even with the harder schedule they have an a lot better record that us...
ColonelCrazy Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I guess ESPN didn't have any open slots due to bowl season.
Sharp Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 I guess ESPN didn't have any open slots due to bowl season. You may have stumbled on to something.

mcpapa Posted January 10, 2008 Posted January 10, 2008 Are you trying to say the SEC is harder than the ACC? That would be a stretch... But some part of the fact that the SEC is "down" is that UK isn't in their typical spot.
