He did recruit a few key players, but everything triggered from the SRs left behind. Kirk, Carter, Jones and Sloan are all pretty good, but only Carter is a big time talent...

And yet he somehow was able to stay long enough to justify his ability to coach the UK program????

Tubby understood the nature of UK basketball. BG had no clue what he was getting himself in the middle of.

Gillispie was didn't recruit Law, but was definitely the hand in developing him.

Being an assistant for 3 years at UK and being a HC is NOT the same, neither have/had the big program experience, but BCG seems to be a very dedicated individual. I'm sure he'll be fine.

Being an assistant for 3 years at UK and being a HC is NOT the same, neither have/had the big program experience, but BCG seems to be a very dedicated individual. I'm sure he'll be fine.

 

But Tubby understood the nature of being HC at UK and the pressures of UK and the demands of UK and the environment of UK basketball from having watched Ricky P in it. I would assume there were conversations about it while he was on staff.

 

BG had none of that.

 

It seems he has had some issues with the off-the-court demands of UK basketball.

I dont think you can say that Tubby's 3 years as an assistant prepared him for UK's off the court demands. He was HORRIBLE with the media. He had a hard time finishing sentences.

I SAID he understood the environment he was getting into.

 

If you are assistant for 3 years and watched the Head coach in action dealing with all the trappings of UK basketball, would YOU have a better understanding of being head coach at UK than I would that has limited knowledge of it?

 

THAT IS ALL I AM SAYING.

 

He knew better than BG what he was getting into.

This year is a wash, if he doesn't win 25 games next year he will be gone. Tubby would be 9-4 with this team instead of 6-7.

 

 

I agree. Tubby would be 9-4 at worst, likely at least 10-3, with this current roster of Cats. Tubby knew how to get the maximum from what talent he had.

I'm not sure he'd beat either of those teams with UK or Minnesota.
