Congrats to Elliott on the win. I was not there, nor do i know what happened, but each team and head coach is made aware of the no taunting before the game. They are specifically told to taunting or baiting in any form, This is your warning. I Technical foul will be given if we seen anything to this nature. This could be as little as tring to get your crowd to make some noise, holding your follow threw while running down the floor. Anything to bring attention to yourself could be considered taunting.

 

If everything was just black and white, we wouldn't need any refs, judgement calls are made everygame, just part of the game.

 

The Ref should call consistent,if he is calling a T for one player screaming, he should call a T for any player that screams. The player from Rowan turned toward the player he blocked and was fairly close to him and screamed and no call was made. I have watched a lot of games and have never seen a T called on any other player for screaming with excitement after a shot, but have seen two such calls called on Ferguson. Surely the refs in the 16th region would'nt make a call against a player because a fan, or fans were taunting them at games that Ferguson plays in, that would be very unethical to vent their flustration upon a player because of the taunting of a fan or fans, but when humans are involved anything is possible.

True statement. Also I'd say he already knows how to get there. They had the younger Knipp down to Midnight Madness and the LSU football game this past year. And before next year is out............who knows???

Yes he has, and this kid has the potential to be one of the best to ever come out of the eastern end of Ky.. I just hope, (not because I'm an Elliott fan) that he puts in the effort to realize his full potential.

And, IMO if their 3's are falling they will throw a scare into the Royals. But they don't have the bench or the coaching that it would require to beat them.

Elliott does get up and down the floor and does a good job, but I think Rowan could of stayed close if they had a better stradegy. They have a deep bench that doesn't seem to get rotated as needed and they need to get the ball inside to the Blake Pettit kid. To be 6'7-6'8 he doesn't touch the ball enough. If he could of got the ball more and stayed out of foul trouble it would of been closer.

If Elliott had continued to pass and shoot the way they did in the first quarter it would have been a 50 point game. Way too much one on one stuff in the second and third quarters along with the fact they just could not buy a bucket, mostly on wide open looks. They got back to the team concept some in the 4th quarter and started making a few shots. By far the worst performance of the year and they still win by 29. Good teams find a way to win on bad nights. I was impressed with the way they kept playing good defense even when the shots were not falling, another mark of a good team.

The title says it all...for the past five years, in the state of Kentucky, it has been a requirement for the public address announcer to read the sportsmanship card prior to every game.

 

It is also a requirement for the Referee to read this same card during the meeting of Captains and Coach's prior to the game at center court.

 

The sportmanship card specifically says, no taunting and baiting, no trash talking etc...

 

Now for those of you who have never officiated on the floor(the stands do not count), for those of you that have never read a rule book, for those of you that have never been to a state rules clinic, etc...

 

Here is the definition of Taunting and Baiting:

 

1. A player can not pull and tug on his uniform toward the opposition or any of the fans!

 

2. A player can not scream and yell after making a terrific play that brings attention to him or her.

 

3. A player can not charge toward the opposition in a threatening manner (contact or not)!

 

4. A player can not point at a player from the opposing team!

 

5. A player can not curse!

 

6. A player can not do anything that would entice the opponent to react!

 

Why? Let's just say a player does any of these acts and the refs do not enforce the rule with a "T", and the opponent gets mad and starts a fight...now guess what happens...both players are ejected and must sit out the next game.

 

It would be so much better for the game and everyone involved if the unsportmanship technical was called when the rule was broken and prevent something worse from happening.

 

Remember, no matter if your a player, a ref or a fan, just be a good sport...it's a game, not life or death!

If??????that is the rule then the refs should be consistent in calling the T. To call one player and not the other is unsportsmanship also. As I stated before in all the games I have watched only one player that has been called for screaming with excitement and he has been called twice in the past two to three years this makes us old country boys think that a little unethical shenanigans is going on. How many players have you seen called for screaming with excitment the last 5 years, and how many times have you heard the sportsmanship card read before a High School boys basketball game? As for myself, I have been to dozen's in the past 5 years and have yet to hear the card read!!!!!: Maybe we need to have public media announcement about these rules. My curiousity was stirred after reading your post, so I ran a poll and no one has ever heard or seen this take place throughout the state of Kentucky.
