College sports need more men like Billy Stewart, and less selfish, greedy, agent driven coaches. Congrats to WVU and Billy Stewart. I am not a WVU fan, but after listening to Coach Stewart's press conference I will silently root for the Mountaineers!
January 3, 200818 yr After watching the Bill Stewart press conference, Stewart left me with the impression that he will do things the right way and has the best interest of his players at heart. His passion for WVU and his enthusiasm for the game are evident in the way he speaks. I also got the feeling that he is a man of his word and in todays world that is a lost art. Time will tell us about his coaching and recruiting ability but until he proves otherwise, I think WVU hired the right coach.

January 3, 200818 yr Horrible hire for WVU. If I was a WVU fan I would be very worried. He seems like a very nice guy but has won one game with them with RR players. He only coached them for two weeks. They had so many better qualified people that wanted that job. Feel good hires do not work out for the long run. Rich Rodriquez had put that program in position to be a national power for years to come and now they hire a guy that will propably get ate up in the national recruiting wars. If I am another Big East team I am extremely excited. Local sports on news is reporting rumblings already, they are saying the powers inside the program($$$$$$$) is not happy with the hire. Looks like this might be a 1 date marriage already. They said he was a head coach at VMI with a record something like 9-24.
January 3, 200818 yr I think it is a great hire by WVU. If White and Slaton come back next season they stand a legit shot to win the national championship. By bringing in a new coach, it will change everything about the program that all of these veteran players are used to. By hiring Stewart they are keeping everything basically the same. Look what happened to Louisville this season with the Kragthorpe hire.

The guy has had one head coaching job and that was at VMI over ten years ago. His record there was 8-25. Last night was a feel good story but that where it should have ended. If I am a WVU alumu there is no way I am happy with this hire.

The groundwork is in place at WVU and Coach Stewart just has to continue where Fraudriguez left off. Who off the list of candidates has been successful besides Jones at CMU. Bowden would have been a terrible hire, and the rest of the candidates were coordinators somewhere who had no HC experience.

He is 55 years old and has had one HC job where he is 8-25. I would guess that you are a WVU fan by the bolded part of your post. Do you think this is an upgrade, downgrade, or lateral hire for WVU?

January 3, 200818 yr I had really never heard of him before but by watching the press conference today and the way the man talked I think I may like WVU alittle more. He gave me goose bumps by listening to him. Seems like a good ol' country boy though that may not be ready for the spot light.
