Humphrey is certainly on par with some of the guys already mentioned here ...

My top five in no particular order:

Bobby Keith is still alive. Billy Hicks is a gym rat who loves the game. He improved in his time at Corbin and has taken it to another level while at Scott County. He would do a great job at a small school also. His passion for the game bleeds over to his kids. While he was at Corbin I always marveled at how fundamentally sound his kids were.

People closer to Listerman, geographically speaking, know more about the coach than those outside of the region. Cov Cath wins games and that is what people see but what they don't see is the talent he is given. Cov Cath should be in the region finals every year and in the Sweet 16 every other with the talent that goes there. He may be a good guy and always says the right things but 90% of coaches in NKY can't stand the guy.

 

I am not a CCH booster and didn't graduate from CCH but have come into contact Coach Listerman on a number of occassions and I have always found him to be one of the most sincere and honest guys I have ever dealt with.

I come into contact with a number of coaches and ADs on a regular basis and most speak highly of Mike Listerman. There are always one or two critics of everyone but most of the time you find out that those guys are just whiners and jealous of the job that he does. Mike Listerman is a 1st class coach and even moreso a 1st class individual.

Just a matter of opinion. There's a lot of good coaches in the state so how could anyone make this judgement since we don't know them all. Sometimes we base coaching on wins and losses which we shouldn't. I've seen some good 10th and 16th regional coaches this year .Last year I was really impressed with Cov Catholic's coach and this year from what I've seen have been impressed with Montgomery's, Clark Co's Fairview's, St Patrick's ,Deming's and Henry Clay's coaches. Some don't have a lot of material but they sure do well with what they have. Jay Fite at Bracken doesn't have much talent at all but does a super job with what he has. There's a lot of good coaches out there that I don't know but have noticed these ones. Some coaches are average but have so much talent that about anyone could win with their teams.

This not true. 90%???? I have never met one coach in the 9th Region who can't stand him. Do they disagree with the way he coaches sometimes? Yes. I personally know all but 5 coaches in the 9th Region this year. Many I speak on a regular basis and I don't know one who doesn't like Mike Listerman.

 

Do I think Mike is the best coach? No I don't. I think there are 3 better ones in his own region. But if people understood what this man teaches besides the game of basketball, they would understand why is a great coach.

First off being a St. Henry guy I wish I had dollar everytime I heard how good our coach is and how much everyone likes him. Dave Faust is one of the best in the state and I'm proud to say I was able to play for him.

 

When I was in HS every year there was rumor a school was offering him a better job and he was considering leaving. He never did. He stuck it out and stayed at St. Henry for the community and for the kids. For the right reasons.

 

He is not only a great teacher of the game, but he's a great teacher of life. He's someone I've always looked up to and still today a very close friend of mine. He's the #1 coach in the state in my mind. We at St. Henry know how lucky we are to have him.
