Who does Boone have playing on their team? Heard their coach was "T'd" up at the Scott tourney.

Twice and tossed. Heard it was bogus. He didn't coach the Highlands game. 15 carried the Lady Rebs.

Also, loved the gym. Boone guy told us it seats 2 more than Ryle's. He seemed pretty proud of that fact.

Middle schools teach Algebra I as early as 7th grade.

But to better answer your question, academic classes are not competitions, so I think that they are two separate issues.

Ohio does not permit middle school kids to play high school athletics period, no matter how talented the player.

If they are not competitions, why do they have valedectorians and give scholarships based on GPA and test scores, or are you opposed to that too. IMO their loss in Ohio. That is the problem with a lot of things today. We have to make everyone happy and make everyone feel good about themselves. If you are a senior playing varsity basketball and a 7th grader is better than you, tough *^@#!!. Get out and work a little harder so that 12 year old does not take your spot. You are probably in favor of giving trophies to everyone who participated in the tournament instead of selecting an MVP too, aren't you? PCBS.

Might want to check the rules on posting particularly rule number eight.

No,I am not in favor of participation trophies just like I am not in favor of having a statewide tournament for small schools.

And just so you know my daughter and one other girl is the reason for the middle school rule in Boone County!!!

What is the "middle school rule" ?

I am guessing you are referring to the new self imposed rule that Boone County Schools placed on themselves. The rule is that if a girl moves up from middle school to high school she is to be varsity only.

This rule is crazy! IMO!! And is only designed to feed the egos of the middle schools to try and win championships.

The ironic thing is that after they began this rule Boone County Schools stopped playing in the NKAC. They now only play in county schools plus Grant County and Tichenor. To play other schools their coach has to enter them into tournaments.

This is the rule for middle school players in Boone County.

And for the record, that same year that my daughter and one other player moved up, another girl was asked to move up but chose not to and she is currently having a very good high school career.

I do not have a problem with players moving up.

Didn't know if there was something more to this than previously posted. The only issue I would see is the difference in maturity, not necessarily the ability to play at that level, but the life experiences the older girls have had and as a parent do you want your daughter growing up faster in that respect. I would lean to the side of letting them grow up wth their friends even if it meant saying "no". Who really is this for the child or the parent?

I agree with that. :D

Why aren't you in favor of having a statewide tournament for small schools? Being a parent of kids who went to a small school, the All A tournament was great. Their #1 goal was making the All A State Tournament. Alot of small schools can't compete with the larger ones based solely on numbers. The talent pool is not as strong and having a separate tournament gives them the opportunity to gain exposure that they normally would not have. I don't know if you've ever been to the All A State Tournament, but it is great for the kids. There are college coaches in attendance looking to see if there are some kids who may help their programs that haven't gotten the publicity as the prime time players have. It's a great exposure opportunity for the little guys. As we all know, there are good players at all levels (big or small schools), unfortunately the small schools get left out alot of times. Some kids are overlooked just because they go to a small school and don't get their names in the headlines because of it. The All A is an opportunity to showcase the small schools and the players participating. It's GREAT for everyone involved.

This rule wouldn't work in smaller school districts. Some smaller schools have to move girls up to frosh to have a full team. Numbers aren't always there like the bigger schools in Boone County. Why was this rule put in place? What does it accomplish?

I think a better way for me to say it is that I would like to see basketball split into 2 classes.

Because principals of the Boone middle schools wanted to keep the players on their respective middle school teams to increase their chances of winning the NKAC championship.

Hey im giving a shout out to the Ludlow Freshman Coach he's Young in his 2nd season. NOt done bad when he don't Have Many Freshman players on his team.. Good Luck Coach Blake Clary and keep up the good work!!!!

So winning a middle school tournament is more important than winning the Regional at the high school level. Seems like those ms principals are being short sighted.

This came from a ms principle or is it purely speculation. With the size of boone county schools, getting ready to open a new school, you would again think there is plenty of players at the high schools instead of bringing players up. So who's being greedy here the middle schools for trying to keep the girls playing at their age level or the high schools not being patient enough to wait their turn for the players to mature and move up? Or maybe even mom or dad pushing the issue. Riddle me that batman.

Highlands was a big enough school, but a young Jaime Walz was a big enough talent to earn the spot. In my opinion the best players should play at the highest level. Makes it simple.
