William Stein is a heck of a player and deserves to be Mr. Kentucky .

Alot of homer votes and posts in this thread, including this one. I voted for Robbinson and his case for the award is solid. With out him Lone Oak is not in the finals and would not have gotten past the first round of the playoffs. With him he leads a school from worst to first, well 2nd in this case. Along the way he puts up sick numbers, (had to borrow that sick comment from some other poster in this thread) that include alot of state records and a national one as well. You can argue this that or the other but I guarentee there is no other player that has a stronger case for having done more for his team this year than Robbinson not to mention bringing some national attention to KY HS football along the way. If the criteria for this award is as I understand it to be then the vote should not even be close. If you make it a team award then who knows but Robbinson to LO meant more than anyone else to their team. He managed to do all this while also starting on defense and handling punting duties.

It's a shame my vote does not count :lol:

I have to admit that I do not know much about Stein but when I was looking at the stats throughout the year. Lone Oak's QB threw for 67 touchdown passes in 10 regular season games. He also had 81 leading to the state game. The previous state record including the post season is 63. I have not seen either play all year, but just looking at the numbers, he has my vote.

I am torn on this one.

 

I think it is hard not to vote for Corey Robinson for Kentucky Mr. Football because of the state and national records he broke. Lots of media attention as a result. But........it seems obvious that the records were made while playing a very weak schedule. The question then becomes:

 

Should a kid a awarded Mr. Football who played against designed inferior competition? It was mandatory for Lone Oak to play within their district, but with the other games on the schedule, it is quite obvious they were looking to play extremely inferior competition.

 

I know it is not the kid's fault, since he does not make the schedule, but he would be the benefactor of playing against very poor competition. I would like to see teams/coaches/players awarded for playing against the best of competition. That is why I would not vote for Corey Robinson if I had a vote.

 

Will Stein would get me vote!

 

He played against excellent competition and shined brightly. He has tremendous command of a position that takes years and repetition after repetition to master. He is obviously well coached, but is a special high school player. And the funny thing is that he will be hurt by many of the voters being anti-private school, but here is one public school guy who would campaign for him.

 

E.J. Fields is an outstanding athlete, but not Mr. Football.

 

Clay Cecil has been mentioned in this thread. Come on fellas! He has had a good high school career, but his team's style does not put him in a favorable position statistically to win this award.

 

This is a two horse race (Robinson and Stein) and a strong case can certainly be made for both.

Wouldn't you think a "Mr. Football" award would go to a player who is most likely to go on and play major college football? Just curious is any of these guys have offers to do just that?

Its tough for a defensive player to be a huge Mr. Football candidate usually but shouldn't Winston Guy, who not only was impressive this year on defense but also had a pretty solid offensive year also, be considered a very viable candidate for this award? I mean heck, he even committed to UK which is usually the be all end all of this discussion.

It's amazing how when a game plan is made to control the ball and run the clock against a superior passing opponent that the running back now gets the tag that he got 50 carries a game. Actually i think he averaged around 27 a game and his yards per carry was about 7. I don't care how many carries you get, when opponents know your going to be running the ball and stack 8-9 guys in the box every game and you can still average 7 yards a carry, i consider that an impressive stat. Of course Trinity held Farris to minimal yards. With their athletes and the obvious game plan that they had to stop Farris they should have.
