December 6, 200718 yr Why do they have to have 12 teams to have a conference championship? NCAA rule...
December 6, 200718 yr I disagree. Despite the loss to Illinois, OSU is the best team in the Big 10. I agree, although this year that isn't saying much...
December 6, 200718 yr NCAA rule... The NCAA can make rules on postseason games in conferences, but mysteriously can do nothing when it comes to a D-I playoff. Hypocrisy is splendid, eh?!
December 6, 200718 yr The NCAA can make rules on postseason games in conferences, but mysteriously can do nothing when it comes to a D-I playoff. Hypocrisy is splendid, eh?! The NCAA has no say in a playoff because the school presidents won't let them in...
December 6, 200718 yr How do you suggest those leagues get to 12 teams??? Didn't know it was an NCAA rule. Another archaic one, I might add.

December 6, 200718 yr It's older then that. As I understand it, it was set up to allow a championship game for large D2 and D3 conferences (some with very large membership of 18-20 schools, that's why 12 teams are required to have one) to play the extra game to crown a champion to represent them in the D2 championship. The $EC was the first D1 conference to use that rule as a basis for it's money making conference championship game and others followed suit. The conferences have chosen to go that route, there's no rule that says if you have 12 or more teams you MUST play a conference championship game. If they feel it's not in their best interests for their team to play that extra game then they need to stop playing them.
December 6, 200718 yr They should keep it like it is. It has produced two consecutive national champions (if it ain't broke, don't fix it).
