The thing that really gets me is the Car Care Bowl chairman is dismissing the UConn BLOWOUT this weekend as "WVU was playing to get in the title game". Last I checked UConn was playing to get in the BCS and gave up 66 points... Maybe it is simply a "Will fans travel issue". Granted UC saw a spike in attendance but in general outside of the 100-200 mile bubble they have not shown the proclivity to travel in large numbers. Maybe they hadn't had the opportunity to, but that perception is out there. Will USF fans travel? Don't know but have had some impressive home crowd numbers. Will UConn fans travel? I don't know, but in basketball their media coverage is wide and their fans will travel. It simply could be a perception issue that only a few years of winning will cure. Remember, many of these non-BCS bowls are nowhere near sellouts, with the exception of a few.
November 27, 200718 yr At the end of the day, the real problem is very poor bowl tie-ins for the Big East. When things are restructured next season they have to have 5 BCS opponents tied in at minimum... 5 BCS tie-ins will be tough, considering SEC, Big 10, PAC 10, ACC, Big 12 tie-ins.

November 27, 200718 yr I would disagree. I think you want El Paso as a reward for your team. No offense to the fine folks of Birmingham but its hardly a destination spot in December. El Paso is warm and beautiful. Birmingham is gray. On a good day.I'll agree that it is better for the team, but last year it was a warm sunny day in Birmingham. Now, if you had said Cleveland.... November 27, 200718 yr How much affect will the UofL/Rutgers game have on the bowl that they go to? I believe that if UofL wins they will tie Rutgers in Big East play giving them the advantage but I'm not sure if that would really matter or not in the end.
November 28, 200718 yr I just heard on the news that the PapaJohns.com Bowl is the lowest paying of all the bowls. :irked: However, if they do get this bowl, I may go down for the weekend.

November 28, 200718 yr UC lost at home to a poor UL team. Lost at home to a good WV, team and lost at a Pitt, another not so good team. Add the weak nonconference schedule, and a poorer than expected conference. They had it in their hands, lose 2 home conference games and take what they give you. UC fans wouldn't have been cryin like this a couple of years ago. Well I guess it is good the mentality has changed.

The only way UofL can get to a bowl over Rutgers, is if Rutgers can't count the Norfolk State game. I'm pretty sure they can because they didn't have to count a I-AA game to be bowl eligible last year. Rutgers already has 7 wins. UofL can only get to 6 wins. NCAA rules say that 7 win teams get in before any 6 win teams can get in. So, Rutgers is in. UofL could possibly get in some where, but 6 wins does not guarantee them a bowl.
