November 25, 200718 yr Per Chris Landry, Fox Sports Radio analyst, who has coached in the NFL and does some scouting for teams and does some evaluations for colleges and their searches and has great contacts. Very interesting to listen to. He had some pithy thoughts. They were talking about the coaching openings....to paraphrase what he has heard. Auburn---looks like Tuberville will get a nice extension to stay. Texas A&M---With Tuberville likely to stay, they will look hard at former Packer head coach Mike Sherman. Michigan---He thinks that the #1 target is Kirk Ferentz. Says the president loves Ferentz and he is the one that Lloyd Carr wants. Says that Ferentz is considered by the coaching fraternity as one of the top 5 coaches in the game. Says he is far better a coach than Les Miles. Does not know if Ferentz would leave Iowa. He said that Bill Belichek said that the brightest minds he has even been around are Saban, Ferentz, and Parcells. The number two choice is UC's Brian Kelly. Says his style may not mesh with Michigan but hearing his name mentioned quite a bit. The third choice is Les Miles. Says Miles is the fallback choice because they know he would take the job and he would do a good job, but probably not as good a job as Lloyd Carr. I found him to be very interesting to listen to and even held up against UM callers. Nebraska---says he hears Turner Gil and so forth and Bo Pellini. He thinks Pellini has underachieved with the talent he has at LSU. Says Paul Johnson and Jim Grobe will get serous looks and that Tom Osborne loves former UMinn coach Glen Mason. Ole Miss---Will Muschamp from Auburn, and Jimbo Fisher the OC at FSU, says he has a history with administration at Ole Miss. Those two would be at the top of the list. Arkansas---Houston Nutt and staff do not feel that they will be back, and have put out feelers. He is hearing that Rich Brooks may be stepping down at the end of the year. He said if that were to happen, Houston Nutt would be very interested.
November 25, 200718 yr If Brooks does retire, Houston Nutt would be a great replacement. He knows the SEC, knows how to recruit the region, and his teams always seem to play great defense and physical football in general.

We don't need the theatrics that seem to come with him and his "friends."
November 25, 200718 yr I would be curious to hear the UM fans reaction should Kelly end up as their #2 choice instead of Les Miles.

November 25, 200718 yr Osborne is in Baton Rouge right now, he took a boosters plane from Lincoln down there around noon today so Im sure he is meeting with Bo Pelini. Im not sold he is the best hire for Nebraska but it looks like we will find out.
November 25, 200718 yr Please no! I want a guy with swagger and attitude, Ferentz is not that guy. Kelly would be okay with me. At this point, I can't see how there are any better choices than Miles.

If Kirk Ferentz and Houston Nutt are coaching my two favorite teams next year, I'm going to be one depressed college football fan. If Brooks were to retire, I'd go for the guy from Wake Forest, although I doubt he'd be interested.
