The Rocks' second string defense may allow a couple of touchdowns after Trinity builds a 49-0 lead in the third quarter. Turnovers, field position, home field, our QB, Stein, is also the centerfielder for this spring's baseball team. Combine his quickness with the receiving corps that include the Dutton twins, Radcliff, Leach, Phillips, Sims, & Smyth. Henry Clay will have to gamble on defense. Phillips is very good at picking up a blitzing linebacker.

 

I'm quite certain Henry Clay was "faking" out the Rocks when they were deadlocked at 0 with Dunbar at halftime of their "titanic struggle".:lol:

 

Let's review: Henry Clay 47-43 vs. Boyle? 41-30 versus Clark County?

Quality loss: Cincy LaSalle finished 5-5, losing 4 of their last 5 and did not make the playoffs in Ohio.

 

Quality win for the Rocks 39-28 over Bowling Green.

Quality losses (I really don't believe in quality losses, but for discussion's sake)to USA Today's #2 in the country and to current AP and Litkenhous state #1 St. Xavier.

 

Cantrall has it T 96.7 to HC 88.7. That does place Trinity at number 1 in this ranking system.

Just one comment here......if you think Trinity could beat a healthy LaSalle team this season, you are badly mistaken.

 

LaSalle has six Division I players in their senior class. That was a very impressive team before a murderous schedule and several key injuries took it toll.

 

Trinity is a power in Kentucky. My guess would certain be the best or second best. Also, like LaSalle this year, would not make the playoffs in Ohio.

Again, it was not a premeditated conspiracy. No one at Henry Clay even noticed it, but no one at Henry Clay knew how sacred your "T" in the center of the field was either.

 

It has no relevance to what should be a good football game between two good teams. Come on, you all can come up with a better motivational tool than this little childish feat that happened two years ago!

 

I will go out on a limb for the whole Henry Clay family. If one or two of our players take it upon themselves to foolishly stomp on the "T" at midfield, an apology has been given in advance.

Henry Clay had a very big, physical team that came into St. Matthews two years ago to meet Trinity. I did not think this was the best Trinity team I had seen and really thought Henry Clay could get the win, but Trinity was totally in control of that football game.

 

Last year, it was Trinity's turn to come to Henry Clay. The Devils had a speedy bunch of players who could score quickly and often, but the Shamrocks jumped out to a four touchdown lead in the first quarter and handily won that football game.

 

Sam Simpson has never been a coach who uses much trickery. He has another outstanding football team although I do not think it has been a tested football team. The competition in Lexington is very much down. The Blue Devils have outstanding personnel all over the offensive side of the ball. Their defense is much improved, but have not faced a team that presents the challenges that Trinity will.

 

In my heart, I know that Henry Clay has had the talent each year to defeat Trinity. Only a few teams in Kentucky are able to honestly make that statement. To me, Trinity's system is on a whole different level than any school in the state of Kentucky and that includes St. Xavier.

 

Sam Simpson and Henry Clay's challenge in this game is to play mistake free, disciplined football and attempt to let their athletic players make the plays. Everyone will soon see that Henry Clay does have what it takes, but will that be enough in this game?

HC has enough speed to be a threat to score on everyplay. Trinity will need to play at the top in this one.

HC would have no more than a slim chance in Lexington, little to no chance in T's backyard. The Rocks may give up 20 (half of them late) but they should have no problem scoring 40+.

strongopenyon! All very good points! I too, have always felt HC has had a lot of talent on the field when they play Trinity. In the past it has been the Rocks QB reads that has foiled HC’s defense. With that in mind, Stein has done this all season to other teams. Should be a great game. GO ROCKS!

I also have felt that Henry Clay has the talent to win these big games, the problem is, the last two times have waited until the second quarter or after halftime to wake up and get loose and play...if they wake up early, they have a good shot.

Looks like it's going to be in the mid 30's at gametime. As long as the wind is calm, weather shouldn't be a factor. "GO ROCKS"
