Why does your qb play special teams?

 

Because he's good.

 

I think that it is a bad idea to have him on the field that much when the QB list is not that deep on the sideline. But I am only a voice in the stands. He does have a lot of talent but it sure is a risk to stick him out there.

 

I'm with #1 fan and DD on this one. I've watched the kid and he's a TREMENDOUS athlete and a tough kid. However, when your backup qb is a boy that played FROSH football this year you cannot take the chance of injury to your starting qb by placing him on special teams. I can maybe see having him play D but special teams is just an unnecessary chance to take. I have no doubt Conner Hemple will be a very good qb in the future. He's a heckuva athlete regardless of sport. Its just an unfortunate position to put him in and to put your team in by having your leader go down on ST.

 

With that said, the next varsity game I coach will be my first so take my comments however you want.

That is certainly not a good enough reason, IMO.

A question to anyone in the know at Ryle HS. I found it odd that Ryle didn't take the field until about 10 minutes on the game clock before the Kickoff, or until about 1 or 2 minutes proir to the third quarter. Boone went through all the ususal pregame warmups, Ryle didn't. Did they take care of all that at Ryle before boarding the bus, or did they do it as some sort of intimidation factor? Just curious, it's the first time I've ever seen that from a team.

Because he is good. Seriously, he has great break away speed, took one back about 90 yards against SK last week and he is a running QB who is used to taking hits. It's a gamble that coach decided to take a couple of weeks ago.

If he is willing to take that type of gamble he needs to develop a backup qb.

Ryle did warmups on their field before boarding the bus - Kyle has some strained neck muscles. It was unfortunate for the injury to happen at that point in the game - we could have used him on the D. Agree he should not be playing on special teams because he is very vunerable and every player on the opposing team is gunning for him. Raiders played a great game - turnovers were the key.

4/13 passing for Ryle. That's a shame.

Benke made a huge play in the SK game returning one to retake the lead after an early SK score, but it's a huge risk. And like cshs81 echoed, 4/13 should be unacceptable, when will the Raiders start diversifying the "O", no reason they shouldn't be able to have a more balanced offense in Union.

Boone is pretty much the class of big ball in NKY year in and year out. Didn't see the game but not surprised at all my the result. Hats off to the Ryle seniors... some of you had great careers.

 

I'm sorry but that quote is ridiculous.. It seems boone didn't even make it past first round of the playoffs last year. It would seem that to have a solid team you would be consistent with your play. Obviously boone was not consistent loosing to Campbell county last year in the first round.

They have been pretty consistent though. Of the last five years in which any large school team from NKY has advanced past the first round (none did so in 2003) Boone has been the last team from NKY standing in the large school division 4 out of 5 times (last year being the exception). That seems pretty darn consistent to me.

I'll second that opinion, good point. Year in and year out, Boone is the best of the big schools in NKY and it's not really close.

Too aggravated to post over the weekend:

Some thoughts:

1)Congrats to Boone on the victory. You did not turn it over and we did.

2)Ryle players - you controlled both lines of scrimmages and did not let Farris beat you with his running or Bogle and #22 beat you with the passing game - you did your job very well. Two plays (fumble at own 20 and long run by Bogle) were the difference and you outplayed Boone the rest of the night.

3)Great hard-hitting game with outstanding effort by both teams. Exciting finish again.

4)Play calling by both teams is bad, Ryle's is worse. Ryle's play-calling was the responsibility for both losses to Boone. You easily could have won both games this year. Boone had at least 9 in the box yet could not stop the run and they were very vulnerable to the pass and you did not pass except for jump ball type passes. Not using your very good tight end even once was pathetic. Preparation is good but game planning is very poor at Ryle.

5)Ryle's offensive line is very good, much better than Boone's.

6)Boone's DE #88 made some great plays and was the difference-maker for Boone's D. #33 for Boone and #3 for Ryle had the two outstanding hits of the night.

7)Ryle will NOT win games often vs. equal or better teams until they realize that the forward pass is a good thing. I feel very bad for Ryle's players, who work so hard and have such lousy play-calling.

8) Ryle was tougher and stronger than Boone as evidenced by controlling both lines of scrimmage.

9)Good luck to Boone. You will have the same problem vs. Trinity that we had last year unless you realize that you have to execute a LOT (25-30) of short passes and use Farris, the tight end and a variety of receivers, not just #22. Farris will get under 100 yards vs. Trinity if you have the same game plan you had both games vs. Ryle.

10)I disagree that it's not close between Boone and Ryle as far as best 6A in NKY. Who was the best large-school team in NKY last year? RYLE. Boone could well fade into oblivion after this year's talented and senior-dominated team leaves. Ryle will be better than Boone next year.

11)I will miss watching all Ryle seniors. Hope some of you get to play on Saturdays and maybe even one on Sundays. Thanks for a great season.

^Even after the weekend, sounds like a bunch of sour grapes out their in the U, funny how Ryle is so much better and dominating you would think they would have atleast pulled out one of the games with that much domination. Go Rebels!!

Please tell me what I said that is not true and get back with me. No sour grapes. Where did I say Ryle is so much better than Boone? I inferred Boone is an equal or better team. Enjoy this year. We enjoyed last year.
